I just found out yesterday that Al Kresta had gone home from the hospital for hospice care. He had liver cancer. Then this afternoon that he has died. This was a guy that shaped my thinking and challenged me over the years. He was born a Catholic, drifted through New Age stuff, became an evangelical, Christian bookstore owner, pastor, radio host, and then found his way back to the Catholic Church. He founded Ave Maria Radio with the generous assistance of Tom Monaghan, and has been a regular on Catholic radio with Kresta in the Morning followed more recently by Kresta in the Afternoon. He would find experts in the fields of religion and culture and do deep dives into challenging subjects. EWTN carried his program and I ate it up. I even went to see him speak once in Lincoln NE.

Right now sadness consumes me. A great and good and smart and connected Catholic man is with us no more. But I realize the blessings of having him around are that we can then be enabled to do some good as a result of it all. I'm expecting that his radio program will continue to mine his archives for the best of his programs and that Marcus Peters will be able to carry on in the coming months and years.

I listened to his radio program for years.

The world has lost a bright light.

Some legends are one of a kind. There really is no replacing them.
But we can be grateful for them, and how God has used them in our lives.

Kresta would later say that the "intellectual integrity of the Catholic faith is unlike anything in Protestantism.”

"The Catholic faith has never disappointed me when it comes to my use of reason or intellectual coherence," he said.

He was a big presence. Prayers for him and all who knew and love him.

I prayed for this man, Al Kresta, that he is with God. Am not familiar with his stuff, as my Catholic journey only began two years ago.

John 14:2-4, 2 Corinthians 5:1, and Revelation 21:5 say that he is in a better place, as Heaven is our new home.

Do yourself a huge favor and look up Kresta Archives and listen in for a while. He has amazing apologetics materials, and was a keen social observer.

I think it was around 2013, when I started listening regularly to 'Kresta in the Afternoon'. Coincidentally, that was also the beginning of Francis' papacy. I always looked forward to Al's 'spin' on things, after Francis would make a confusing statement in public. Al was always charitable in the way he attempted to interpret those things.

But what really got my attention was when I came across the book "The Mystery of Suffering (A Spiritual Classic on Trust in Divine Providence)" by Hubert Van Zeller, OSB. Kresta wrote the forward to this latest edition of the book. In the forward, Al shares his personal experience in 2003 with a "flesh-eating bacteria". With it,, he developed sepsis and blood poisoning. The only hope of saving his life was to amputate his leg. And so, they did.

While going thru all of that, a good friend gave Al a copy of Van Zeller's book. The book greatly encouraged Al, as he went thru that very painful journey that almost resulted in his death.

Kresta strongly recommended the book, and it is a very good book. But also, I do believe Al Kresta was a man with strong faith in God.

I am so very deeply sorry.
Pray for him and ask him to pray for you. :sparklingheart:
May he rest in peace.

All his wonderings are now in full knowledge.

I am sure EWTN will keep his works. Let's hope.

I might just do that. He sticks true to the scriptures, if I may ask? I live under a rock.

You seem to have internet, YouTube is part of it.
I am certain anyone online can access Youtube video's if audio is tricky. Audio is trickier than video.

He is a true Catholic. I hope and bray, and if I were a betting man I would say he has met the Lord who said to him "well done good and faithful servant. He had those years as an evangelical pastor under his belt and the seriousness to look deep into Scriptures to find answers, the reason he became Catholic again.

Live 'on' the Rock. Better than 'under' some rock. You have so many good instincts. Keep it up.
