According to the theory of evolution, how scientifically inaccurate is this Christian sweatshirt?

For those of you not up on your pop culture references, King Kong is a giant monkey. However, this jacket’s absurd straw man that only two generations separate me from a different species has led me to another question:

According to the scientific theory of evolution, how many generations of humans would you have to go backwards through before we all turned into apes? How many generations are required to turn one species into another?

I strongly recommend this:

'Now, in The Ancestor's Tale, Dawkins offers a masterwork: an exhilarating reverse tour through evolution, from present-day humans back to the microbial beginnings of life four billion years ago.'

We're still apes.

Chimpanzee–human last common ancestor

The chimpanzee–human last common ancestor (CHLCA) is the last common ancestor shared by the extant Homo (human) and Pan (chimpanzee and bonobo) genera of Hominini. Estimates of the divergence date vary widely from thirteen to five million years ago.

Age estimates

An estimate of 10 to 13 million years for the CHLCA was proposed in 1998,[16] and a range of 7 to 10 million years ago is assumed by White and colleagues in 2009.[17] A 2016 study analyzed transitions at CpG sites in genome sequences, which exhibit a more clocklike behavior than other substitutions, arriving at an estimate for human and chimpanzee divergence time of 12.1 million years.[18] Studies in the early 2020s suggest a more recent CHLCA, such as between 9.3 and 6.5 million years ago in 2021,[19] and studies giving even more recent dates are cited in a 2022 article.[20]

Link 18 notes that generation times for simians ranges from the mouse lemur at 3 years to humans at ~30. Very roughly, then, we're looking at 500,000 to a million generations. So the shirt is off by something like 40,000,000 percent.

--

As a humorous exaggeration, the shirt can be interpreted as saying "I share no common ancestors with other apes." This obviously is 100% inaccurate.

I think it is scientifically accurate to say that human beings are not plants, and cannot be crossbred like plants. Also, hybrid tomatoes are still tomatoes.

One.

They're called "hybrids."
One generation? It's not common, but speciation can happen by hybridization. In plants, it can happen by polyploidy. Since we have an abundance of transitional speciation (hawthorn maggot fly/apple maggot fly for example) in which speciation is in progress, but mot complete, it seems that gradual (in human timeline) change is the norm. Of course, it's rapid in geological time.

The common ancestor of Australopithecus and Humans lived about 140,000 generations ago, or maybe 3 million years. The common ancestor of chimps and humans lived about 350,000 generations ago, or maybe 7 million years.
How many generations are required to turn one species into another?
One species does not turn into another. In fact, every creature that ever lived was the same species as its parents and its offspring. Speciation happens between populations, not between individuals.

And yet we have solid evidence for crossbreeding between homo sapiens and both neandertals and denisovans.

And one other unidentified population of humans. Whether these four populations are separate species or subspecies of H. sapiens is not completely settled. Neanderthals are close enough that they would usually be considered subspecies.
