In the Gospel according to saint John the Word is called God, he was with God in the beginning, and he made all things, in truth nothing that was made was made without him. He became flesh and dwelt among us; he is the one who has seen God because he is God the only Son.

Some people mistakenly call the holy scriptures "the Word of God". And because of this mistake a few have come to think of "the Word" as the Bible, and of those a few call the Bible "God". This last is a serious heresy, the heresy of idolatry. The holy scriptures are a book, printed with ink on paper, bound in leather or something like it. How can anybody confuse a book with God. The holy scriptures are not eternal, nor omnipresent, nor omnipotent, nor are they able to save or grant grace. The holy scriptures can make a man wise if the man reads them and opens his heart to receive the Holy Spirit's teaching in them.

Christians must avoid this error, the bible is not The Word, the bible is holy scripture.

Jesus is the word Gods words are the Bible. Jesus is the Bible.
That sir is the sin of Idolatry. The breaking of the first and greatest commandment.
Deuteronomy 5:(6) 'I am the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. (7) 'You shall have no other gods before Me. (8) 'You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. (9) 'You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, and on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, (10) but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

Gods word is the Bible, Jesus is Gods word. That’s no sin. And don’t tell me statues are not idols. What do we have from Jesus except the Bible , his words are life, the Bible is living because of Gods words and the story of Jesus that brought us to salvation. You must be tired, accusing me. What do you think word means.

Some people mistakenly call the holy scriptures "the Word of God".
2 Timothy 3 16 All Scripture is God-breathed

The holy scriptures are not eternal
Matthew 24 35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

Every Word of God in the Scripture will be fullfilled. God's Word is eternall. It will never come back empty as the Lord says.

When Jesus talked to the 2 disciples on the road to Emmaus, Luke 24 27 'And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself'

So from the very first verse in the Bible, until the last one, because all Scripture is about Him.

I agree with OP.

Where I’m at - off the top of my head, is here …

I don’t cut/paste bible verses if I can help it - because cut/pastes usually treat scripture as having an obvious meaning. The meanings of bible scripture aren’t obvious to me a lot of the time.

I need someone to explain it to me. Who wrote it, why, what does it mean, how does it apply. When someone explains all this - you find they are telling you their view on the matter. The scripture itself is an object, but applying meaning to it, that becomes subject. So I wouldn’t say it’s where I get the first layer of my faith from. The first layer is open hearted prayer.

The text says:
John raises the curtain on his Gospel with a stunning description of Jesus Christ as "the Word" (Greek logos, 1:1). Both Greek and Jewish listeners in the first century would immediately rec- ognize the profound meaning of this title. Greeks would have thought of the seminal forces that sustain the universe. Jewish minds would have thought back to God creating the world with his word (Gen 1:3-28). In Jesus' day, the Word of God took on creative personal attributes (Ps 33:6, 9). Jews viewed God's Word as personifying divine wisdom. Through Wisdom, God extended himself into the cosmos, creating the world (Prov 8:22-31).
In John's drama, Jesus shares the same essence as God; the Son existed before time, and he was the agent of all creation. John anchors the divinity of Jesus in this ancient Jewish concept of Wisdom. The divine Wisdom that has existed from before time with God can now be known in Jesus Christ. In perhaps the most outrageous verse penned by an apostle, John writes that this Logos, this Wisdom, became flesh and lived among us as a human (John 1:14). What God is, the Logos is, and the Logos is Jesus Christ.
This is about Jesus, not about the bible.

I’m not worshipping the Bible I’m believing it. I believe in the word, I believe in Jesus. How do you separate Jesus from the Bible. The word is not a title of Jesus, he is what he says, his words. I am the way the truth and the life. From what he says. The Holy Spirit witnesses of what Jesus says- the Bible.

When my wife asks what I’m doing, and I’m on here … I say “I’m on the Christian arguing group”.

I sort of smile guiltily as we both know I’m wasting time getting cheap kicks watching silly arguments.

I suppose that’s really cocky of me, making me as bad as all the Christian’s arguing endlessly.

Rather than argue, it would be better to explore ideas without the insult - real open minded exploration.

So it appears that's 38 times in the New Testament, that scripture (the Bible) is referred to as the "word of God" in the Douay-Rheims translation. Which is a translation preferred by Catholics. Called the "word of God" by Jesus Himself. And also by John, including in 1 John.

The Bible is gods word. When you read the Bible you are reading about the son. From creation, To his dealing with his people, To his procuring salvation for mankind by fulfilling the law. To his directions for his church.

When you read the word. You are in effect seeing the word. The God. The son.

It’s not just a book. Anyone who says otherwise. I feel sorry for them. I would ask. What is your basis of faith. And how can yu prove what is the word or will of God

What we have is copies of what was originally given, but Jesus holds a high view of these words, relating them to food.

But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”

For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. 1 Timothy 4:5 Douay-Rheims

Wherein I labour even unto bands, as an evildoer; but the word of God is not bound. 2 Timothy 2:9 Douay-Rheims

To be discreet, chaste, sober, having a care of the house, gentle, obedient to their husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. Titus 2:5 Douay-Rheims

For the word of God is living and effectual, and more piercing than any two edged sword; and reaching unto the division of the soul and the spirit, of the joints also and the marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 Douay-Rheims

And I saw seats; and they sat upon them; and judgment was given unto them; and the souls of them that were beheaded for the testimony of Jesus, and for the word of God, and who had not adored the beast nor his image, nor received his character on their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. Revelation 20:4 Douay-Rheims

In all of these cases you can read the Word of God as referring to Jesus Christ. Of course the phrase refers to both, since Scripture is a verbal icon that reveals Christ our True God who reveals God the Father. It could almost be called the word of the word, except this would be an error since Jesus Christ, the incarnate Word, is God (John 1:1-18)

Whether spoken or written, "word of God" is clearly not a reference to Jesus being the Word.
Well, no, it isn't. The Word of God is Jesus, the bible is scripture, the two are not the same thing.
