A holy picture with animals hugging the holy man

Halo there,

I am posting this again because the last time I posted it I received no comments. This was a pitty because I am very proud of this painting. I painted it according to an orginal Icon from Maksim Sheshukov, relatively known icon painter in russia. His original Icon I will post in the next post. Only the idea with the tongue licking the eyebrow is my own. Surely my painting looks a lot different, but the original icon is much better. This is the first time I painted a realistic human face and I was not sure whether my painting is disliked here. Okay the hands I was not accurate enough but I do not care. 36x48cm or 14,2 x 18,9'' inches. Watercolour pencils. You can click on the small picture below to see it in full screen.

The name of the holy man is Spyridon Trimifunsky. He was whole liftime taking care of poor people and animals and protected the Faith that Jesus is God.

I have not been around much recently. There are many of my posts in the Orthodox forum from several years ago before my baptism when I was looking into Orthodoxy. Life has been busy recently, so I a, spending less time here than I used to.

I don't know much about how to create visual art so I have to ask , how did you get the colors to blend together so nicely?

You put with watercolour pencils a small spot of colour on the paper, then you take a wet brush and you can control the amount of color or you just put a full spot but not to much colour on the paper. Also you can mix colours by choosing another pencil and paint over the old colour. Also where you have put too much colour you take white titan gouache over the colour and it is whiter again. You have to concentrate more if it concerns a face....

This is why you're the artist and I'm a mere observer. I would never have had a clue as to what the process looked like (I even had to Google "white titan gouche"! )
