We have already established that Hank Sr. is #1 all time. Also it has been confirmed that Merle Haggard is #2. So the fight is on for the #3 spot of all time greatest country artist. This would have to pit George Jones vs. Johnny Cash.

The Crazy one; or the Man in Black?

Who takes #3 all time greatest???

Vote now!

Johnny Cash, rather easily I believe.

No disrespect intended toward George, but Johnny was just the better all-around package.

Johnny wrote a lot of his own songs and played a pretty respectable guitar. George wasn't known for his writing or guitar playing, but there's no disputing he was a fine singer.

However, Johnny was undoubtedly the greater all-around talent.

I'm kind of offended by this. Don't get me wrong, I've always been a fan of the Man in Black. But that's all he was to me, not necessarily an all-time great.

It's sort of a put down to George Jones. I'm less familiar with Jones' music by and large, but I do recognize his talent.

Johnny Cash is "not necessarily an all-time great"?! Here's an excerpt from his bio at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville:

"A prolific songwriter and an astute selector of songs from the pens of others, he has reached out to folk and rock sources for his enormous repertory, and his music has consistently appealed to both rock and country audiences. Cash has been honored for his commanding position in music history through election to the Country Music Hall of Fame (1980) and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1992), and as a recipient of the Grammy Legend Award (1990) and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award (1999)."

Nobody was putting down George Jones. I clearly stated that "there's no disputing he was a fine singer."

George Jones can't match these credentials!:

"Cash has been honored for his commanding position in music history through election to the Country Music Hall of Fame (1980) and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1992), and as a recipient of the Grammy Legend Award (1990) and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award (1999)."
