Asteroid might make everything completely different, Newly spotted asteroid has a tiny chance of hitting Earth in 2032 .

The article says that there is a 99% chance it will not hit us, and that "Earth gets clobbered by an asteroid this size every few thousand years, according to ESA, with the potential for severe damage."

Was there one two thousand years ago? That is when Jesus was here in human form. Do they think they know what the most recent one did?

God will determine how the world ends.

I didn't read the article, but do they call that asteroid, "Wormwood," by any chance?

No, it is called "2024 YR4".

I agree about God controlling the end of the world, but it is entirely within the realm of possibility that letting an asteroid collide with earth could be part of how, no?

Asteroid collisions don't have a regular period to them. When they say "every few thousand years" that just means that a couple hundred similar collisions happen every million years. The spacing within that million years is random.

A 50-100 m asteroid is the equivalent of large H-bomb. Not great if it hits your town, but not the end of civilization.

Well I understand you are trying to take the hysteria risk out of my thread title, that is fine. :)

Equivalent to an H-bomb? Big impact on civilization if it hits a major city perhaps?

"The potential impact would occur on Dec. 22, 2032."

But what time exactly on December 22, 2032?

I hope it will be in the afternoon or in the evening, because on this day in the morning I have an appointment with a pulmonologist.

Sorry... it's an old Polish joke about our health service.

A major disaster, to be certain, but no radioactivity, etc.

Yes, I figured very big bang, but without the actual chain of atoms thing from an H bomb.

Also not man made, whereas we created the H bomb.

You know, there's a non-0% chance every day of reality just unraveling and us being none the wiser. So if an asteroid comes, it can start a yogurt company or something.

Those of us who need the UK NHS do know you all feel. It is so hard to get hold of a doctor, you have to be really healthy to pull it off.

This is the supposed impact corridor:

Unless the asteroid hits in india, the impact on civilisation won't be that great.

God will determine how the world ends.
The world ends at the end of the 1,000 year Kingdom Age when there will be a new Heaven and a New Earth.

Many people who follow Abrahamic religions (Christianity, Judaism, Islam) believe in the creation story where God created Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. For some, this is considered the beginning of human history.

Yes, indeed.

Yes, indeed.

Albeit, just by way of technicality, Adam wasn't created in the Garden of Eden.

Adam wasn't created in the Garden of Eden.
Adam and Eve had to have something to eat.

In "Walking the Bible," Bruce Feiler explores the lands and historical settings mentioned in the Bible. When he talks about how Adam and Eve were created, he focuses on the symbolic meaning of the dust. This dust represents the humble, earthly beginnings of humans and shows our close connection to the ground. Feiler also talks about the idea that God shaped humans, like a potter shapes clay. Isaiah 64:8: "Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand."
