Well if he pointed a gun at them, they didn't have any other choice but to open fire. However a raid at the wrong house, not to mention a raid over a weed eater, is ridiculous and inexcusable.

I struggle to accept the police officer's word without any evidence like bodycam footage after such a demonstration of incompetency.

I do think location matters, and cops should do more about making sure they have the right one, for real.

With all the training and planning that goes on for house raids it really is inexcusable that they get the wrong house.

If they end up shooting someone who is totally innocent then I believe the commanders should fired and their LE certificates revoked which means they lose any retirement benefits they hold. Planning a raid where you go into someone's home is frought with risk. There is no excuse for making an address mistake. This is completely on the commanders.

And what earth are they "raiding a house over a stolen weedeater" for?

For crying out loud go knock on the door. Show the owner the search warrant and search the house. Do it during the day so the owner can see you are the police and not some random stranger breaking into his home. Call him on the phone. Send him a text. It's a stolen weedeater, not known drug dealer or some dangerous felon where you want surprise and speed.

They didn't want to risk getting wacked by a spinning fish line.

Some would say that they should be charged with homicide.

Why? Are you not allowed to defend yourself when someone points a gun at you? In these cases it doea depend on what the police were doing when they entered the house. Where they yelling that they were police. Where they yelling they were the police and saying they had a search warrant? Maybe they shoild be charged with homicide if they just kicked in rhe guys door and rushed in without announcing who they were or what they were doing. If they didnt announce and advise then the owner would have a right to point a gun and they should be charged with homicide depending on circumstances. But if they had POLICE on their uniforms and were announcing then no.

It also seems that there is a question on Whether of not they had a search warrant.

I'll tell you what, if I enter someone's house in the middle of the night to ask them questions and they have the audacity to pull a gun on me, they are going to get two in the chest and one in the head. This guy messed with the bull and got the horns.

Because the homeowner has a legal right to have the gun(assuming legal ownership) and to defend his property. Whilst on the police side their gross negligence lead to a homicide. In the UK it would be called gross negligence manslaughter.

Did you know that home invaders have been known to shout that they're police as they break into a home?

At some point, the situation rises to negligent homicide, and this appears to be a case at that point.

I think it's debatable if you are defending yourself when you started the confrontation in the first place.
It also seems that there is a question on Whether of not they had a search warrant.
They definetely had no search warrant for the house they raided.

Just a bit more on this..

The cops stopped using body cameras back in 2023.. :expressionless:

The article above and this one..

Go into some more detail and contain one very sad fact and one interesting fact..

Hobert Buttery, 49, is accused of stealing a heater and a weed eater from a London house the day before the shooting. Police arrested Buttery at 7:34 p.m. on Dec. 23 in nearby Clay County, a little more than four hours before the shooting occurred. The house belongs to Laurel County Judge-Executive David Westerfield, but the stolen items belonged to Westerfield’s tenant. Buttery told authorities he took the lawn maintenance tool to a home in Lily. Court records show Buttery previously used the address 515 Vanzant Road as recently as October 2023.

They already had the guy that stole the weed eater in custody at the time of the raid.

So why all the fuss and a midnight raid over a weed-eater if they already had the guy to who stole it? Much less a raid that they conducted outside their jurisdiction? I wonder if it was because they were stolen from a judge's house?

Has anyone here had anything stolen? Did the cops conduct a midnight raid outside their jurisdiction to get it back? In my case the answers would be "yes" and "No, they really didn't seem to care." But, I'm not a judge either..
