  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Differences of Opinion versus Truth and Righteousness

I am reading in Romans 14:1-23 on the subject of what Christians are allowed to do and not allowed to do, with regard to the freedoms that we have in Christ versus constraints that others might try to put upon us which are not of God. And all this is related, I believe, to the transition that...

FORMAL LOGIC -- Justifying that Initial Premises are TRUE

I propose a thread that will discuss ways to "justify" (the philosophical term) that the initial premises used in an argument, are TRUE. I propose this subject, because ... 1 Most of what I would call errors in arguments used by Christian involve differences in basic definitions (premises)...

The argumentation of modern popular discourse

For the mods reading though this mentions evolution I only use it as an example. This has to do with argumentation, not necessarily the topic of Creation. For everyone else please forgive my frequent hyperbole. A way in which the world & people operate and those with ignorant, misguided or...

    Avoid Fruitless Discussions

Pursue Righteousness 2 Timothy 2:22 ESV “So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.” As followers of Jesus Christ, we are to flee sinful passions. They are to no longer be part of our lives. For, Jesus...

A Great Struggle Colossians 2:1-3 ESV “For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you and for those at Laodicea and for all who have not seen me face to face, that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding...

    'You don't get my perspective'

I just got out of a brief, rocky relationship. Back on our second date, we shared some of our likes and dislikes in relationships. My first dislike I mentioned was the attitude that 'women are always right.' I have no problem apologizing when I do or say something stupid, but I don't see how...

Finding the relationship a challenge - advice and opinions appreciated

Hello, I am unsure where to start on typing this. Firstly, my name is Abi, I'm 23 and live in England. I have been in a relationship with my boyfriend for approximately 6 years, however he lives in America so we only see each other perhaps once a year. A little about me - I was not born to or...

Why in Physics we have proofs, but in Theology - arguments?

There are God proofs, but in debates we call them "arguments". So, we are inviting unbelievers to argue (the word "argue" is like the "argu-ment"). Let the opposer-s call our proofs the "arguments". Do you say in school: "the argument of Pythagorean theorem is following...."?!
