    The "God's Plan" Illusion

I can relate to it. If God is real and if the Bible is reasonably accurate (or if it's how most evangelical Christians interpret it) and we do live in a fallen world, that is horrible and brings debilitating existential angst. Doesn't God ultimately want humanity to join him and let people enjoy...

    The "God's Plan" Illusion

The answer to a lot of things can come down to "You didn't create the world and it's physics, God did" or "Our ways are not God's ways" which I find nonsensical/frustrating and unsatisfying. It makes God look untouchable and faceless.

"Satan is the God of this world" and free will

We are all sinners and slaves to sin. Yeah. But on the flip side of it we can say that to be with the Lord is to be a slave to him, too. I heard people actually use the language sometimes.

"Satan is the God of this world" and free will

We are supposed to have free will and God is in control and has a "plan" for people. But Corinthians (I think) also says that Satan is the "God of this world" and thus controls the airwaves and all human institutions. But this is one of the incongruencies that I can't accept well. Why would or...

Disabled as a man, in late 30's, am I just destined to be single in this life?

Yeah. That's why I also draw parallels to human governments and religions/God.

Do you support a balanced budget amendment?

I would be all for an amendment that allowed emergency deficit spending up to a certain amount.

Disabled as a man, in late 30's, am I just destined to be single in this life?

I kind of respect Islam for openly and brutally saying that it is a religion of submission. Just saying.

Disabled as a man, in late 30's, am I just destined to be single in this life?

This world operated very differently in the mid-20th century to today. Sometimes using older examples don't apply in today's world.

Disabled as a man, in late 30's, am I just destined to be single in this life?

Unfortunately, somebody might come on this thread and twist it into "OP hates women!" like 99% of the rest of the time these threads on the internet are posted. I really feel you on this. Even if there is argument that Matthew 22 and the parallels doesn't mean you won't get a "second chance" in...

Why aren't more Christians or seekers disturbed by the story of Job?

We do live in a fallen world, but that doesn't mean that everything about this life is bad. Suffering and hardship also exist universally, but some people are "better off" in some areas than others and we have no complete agency over it, some people are charismatic while some have little social...

Why aren't more Christians or seekers disturbed by the story of Job?

But why make it seem so pointless from our perspective here and now? It says in Corinthians that Satan rules this world...God could have said at the least "You can rule half of this world, but me and my people can rule the other half" instead of functionally ceding the entire thing to Satan, if...

Why aren't more Christians or seekers disturbed by the story of Job?

The bolded is what I wanted to also point out. I think the Book of Job is the microcosm for God's relationship with our entire history. Then you have 2 Cor 4:4 that explicitly says that Satan is the 'god' of this world, and all the prophecies of dire events to come. It seems that God willingly...

Why aren't more Christians or seekers disturbed by the story of Job?

God Has a Plan for Your Life—And It Might Be Horrible! - by Dr. Jessica Ann Hughes I am also disturbed by Job's story and it's one of those reasons or doctrines why I can't completely accept or reconcile the faith. I mean, what kind of father would want to willingly allow custody of their...

Trump hypothesizes genetic basis for murderous behavior among human populations

And Trump might not be wrong about that. Sometimes I wonder that myself.

Do you know any men that envy or resent the social status of the other gender?

Does anybody know some men that envy or resent the modern social status of women? In society, when a woman talks about a problem it is seen as a social issue and when men talk about their own problems from their point of view, it is an individual problem. The grass isn't greener and being a man...

America’s Stunning Embrace Of Paganism Signals The End Of This Country As We Know It

Off-subject, but I wonder, is it a sin to want to think about being mayor or running your own city or town? Even if the citizens consent to that?

The Social Conservatives Safe House (4)

I wonder if the question really will be how will conservative and adjacent thinkers survive and be successful in a society that is hostile to them and wouldn't mind seeing them die, and the technology for oppressing people is getting much greater, even beyond our comprehension. And I am...

The Social Conservatives Safe House (4)

While I might dispute that the values that Jesus taught were always natural, the rest of that analysis is correct. The one thing that might make me even more angry are those who even mildly suggest that we return to the previous status quos are called extremists or nazis, or even worse they are...

The Social Conservatives Safe House (4)

I am not as dyed-in-the-wool social conservative but I still gravitate that way and we both share common enemy in the radical left. I am a little bit socially conservative, libertarian on some issues, constitutionalism, a mix of things.
