  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Let’s talk about abortion and the events of the last 52 years

My fellow Catholics, I have read the rules of the forum regarding the discussion of abortion. I whole heartedly believe in Catholic teaching that it is a grave evil that is no conduct becoming saints. It is a sin and it is mortal, rendering a soul completely cut off from God and no hope of...

A perspective on Baptism and the plan of salvation that I have not heard before

I have wondered why God commands us to be baptized. The perspective affects our view on creation and salvation. To begin to think about this, we must discern between science, which is observable data and narrative, which is an explanation of the data. The current narrative in science is that...

    What are we doing here?

We all say we are here to follow Jesus Christ to the reward of eternal life. Many have varying opinions on how to reach that goal, but I believe that is the goal of all of us. Good news is that God loves us all, as He wants all men to be saved. Bad news is that we are still human and our...

How is it that the Catholic Church is evil?

To my Protestant brethren. Here are the Pope’s monthly intentions for the month of June as published by the US conference of Catholic Bishops. These were written by Francis, but as far a I can tell they are not revised by Leo XIV. He will publish his in 2026. June That the world might grow...

Neurobehavioral Science proves the word of God correct

What was Satan's primary lie to Eve? Ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. He limited Eve's reasoning to a false choice. The fruit of the tree of good and evil looked good for food, and it would make them know something that God knew and they did not at the time. Two things that seemed...

Does Jesus Himself condemn Sola Scripitra?

This was the Gospel read at Mass on Thursday April 3. It is from John 5 Jesus said to the Jews: “If I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is not true. But there is another who testifies on my behalf, and I know that the testimony he gives on my behalf is true. You sent emissaries to John...

    Spanish Inquisiton

Another member expressed a desire to discuss the inquisition. That is a broad topic spanning hundreds of years. I will limit this thread to the most notorious of the Inquisitions, the Spanish Inquisition. This is a sore subject with the potential for elevated emotions. I want to limit the...

A sermon for the seventh century

This is a Sermon from St Maximus the Confessor He is recognized by both Catholics and Orthodox A Confessor is one who professes belief in Jesus Christ and died for his confession. God has a sense of humor, but it does not look good for us

Let’s take a look at what the secular world is doing. In this forum, we all appear to be defending our interpretation of Christianity, myself included, and it seems to me that we have lost sight of what we should really be fighting for, the Body of Christ, and His glory. How does...

Is prayer valuable to you? How do you do it and how often?

We have all become familiar with the verse in Matthew’s gospel: 6 But thou when thou shalt pray, enter into thy chamber, and having shut the door, pray to thy Father in secret: and thy Father who seeth in secret will repay thee. 7 And when you are praying, speak not much, as the heathens. For...

    To my Orthodox Brethren

One of the best books, or analysis of the East-West divide in the faith that I have come across is this I have titled the thread to my brethren and not friends, because I am ashamed that my flesh and my behavior in the past could hardly get me to the level of friend. As it is, we...

A Scriptural perspective on faith and works

We recall this teaching from the prophet Ezekiel 21 But if the wicked do penance for all his sins which he hath committed, and keep all my commandments, and do judgment, and justice, living he shall live, and shall not die. 22 I will not remember all his iniquities that he hath done: in his...

I wish to make a fellowship post

Dear Traditional Adventists, I wish to post in your forum for the following reasons. I have been in debates and discussions with some of your members and I am impressed by the way you wish to stick to scripture. Your members do not appear to be swayed by any logic that does not include...

A discussion of the Deep Things of God

I was having a conversation with Gary K in another thread, and we were discussing Christian principles. Gary says that I am more Adventist than I know, and I believe Gary is actually discussing Catholic teaching. The denominational barriers would seem to limit our discussion, so I thought that...

It’s getting rough out there, what would you do?

A bit of background: I do not count myself as holy. I spent the first 56 years of my life in sin, even though I thought myself as Christian. I was born Catholic, left the Church came back after 20 yrs but still carried a doubtful conscience as to Church teaching. I would commit grave sin and...

What are we really supposed to do?

This is a sermon from the second century when the Church was one. There were no formal schisms or quote unquote reformations. There was just the Church. Listening today is like watching one of those divorce court shows. Everyone has a reason for why one side is right and the other is wrong...

Why the obsession with End Times prophesy?

There seems to be in Christianity a curiosity or fascination with end times prophesy. Those that more forcefully proclaim their prophecies are seen as more biblically knowledgeable and receive the attention of many. Some stir up fear in our hearts and others fascination and others a sense that...
