I read in 1 Thessalonians 4 13 Jesus will return….and the dead in Christ will rise first…i thought our loved went to heaven at the resurrection of Christ… how then do they need to rise when the have already risen with Christ?

I guess it is possible that until Christ came in 70 AD, those who died in Christ went to the paradise compartment of sheol/hádés. Only after then they were fully risen to meet Jesus "in the clouds" and went to heaven with Him.

But it is difficult to know for sure, because we have just some fragments of what the first church believed in. We must fill the empty spaces with guessing.

I think the rising at the Second Coming is when the bodies of those who have died are re-united with their souls which are already in heaven.

that makes no sense…. How can some people be in heaven and others must wait?

Paul said "we who will remain alive", he was talking about himself and the persons in the church he wrote to. What it really meant for them who lived to 70 AD is hard to say. We would need to be there and to witness it to know for sure.

One thing is certain though - they were believing it will happen relatively soon, in their generation.

Sorry, but I didn't say or mean that. I just wrote: "I think the rising at the Second Coming is when the bodies of those who have died are re-united with their souls which are already in heaven." Nothing there obout some going to heaven and others waiting. When we die, our souls go immediately to heaven if we are Christians. Our bodies remain dead until the Second Coming of Christ, at which time they will be raised and be re-united with our never-dying souls.

Hi
When we die we go to sleep awaiting the resurrection when Christ shall wake us up and we don't go to heaven we were created to look after planet earth at the present time we are destroying it but under Christ's guidance we shall restore it to its former glory we are living in paradise and don't know it

Love and Peace

Have you read my posts? When a Christian dies, his soul immediately goes to heaven. His body remains dead until Jesus comes again, when it will be raised and re-united to his soul in heaven.

Nope, this is the Seventh Day Adventist organization teaching. Not biblical and illogical, IMO.

Hi David
Thank you for your post but on what scripture do you base your statement that the soul goes directly to heaven.

Love and Peace
Dave

Why are our souls separaded from our bodies?

Well, the immediate one that came to mind was what Jesus said to the thief on the cross who believed:

“And Jesus said to him, "Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise."” (Lu 23:43 NKJV)

Also, we have the apostle Paul writing:

“But if I live on in the flesh, this [will mean] fruit from [my] labor; yet what I shall choose I cannot tell. For I am hard pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, [which is] far better.” (Php 1:22-23 NKJV)

and:

“We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.” (2Co 5:8 NKJV)

Stephen prayed as he was dying:

“And they stoned Stephen as he was calling on God and saying, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit."” (Ac 7:59 NKJV)
