Wagner, R-Spring Garden Township, had told his audience, "I haven't been in a science class in a long time, but the Earth moves closer to the sun every year -- you know, the rotation of the Earth. We're moving closer to the sun."

He also said, "We have more people ... you know, humans have warm bodies. So is heat coming off? Things are changing ... but I think we are, as a society, doing the best we can."

Wagner is a Pennsylvania state senator and the republican candidate for governor.

The Earth is not spiraling toward the Sun. In fact, it's moving away by a tiny 5 inches or so every year. And human body heat has absolutely no effect on global temperatures.

Yesterday was Earth Day. The local news reported that the temps in MA went up two degrees since 1970
when Earth Day was first established. :D

Also, it is reported that the earth is 20% greener than it was just 20 years ago. Plants love
carbon. If you think global warming is bad, think what things would be like if the earth was
getting colder?

It's AMAZING to me that God made a natural mechanism for us to correct our poor stewardship. Unfortunately, nobody is heeding the signs we are being shown and those natural mechanisms are simply getting overpowerered and ineffectual.

Here's the beauty of a cooling earth:
Humans can put on more clothes.

Here's the struggle of a warming earth:
Humans can't take off their skin to cool down.
The number of heat related deaths is increasing.

IT's not that I "think" climate change is bad, it's that it IS bad.

"I haven't been in a science class for a long time but I'm not going to listen to scientists".

There is a fundamental problem with hubris in America.
Today's winner.

That's another huge problem, one that's likely to kill a lot of people.

Less Nutritious Crops: Another Result of Rising CO2

Rising carbon levels are eroding nutritional values of staple crops, threatening millions with hidden hunger.

Last time I took Biology was in 2014. Amazing how little our brains retain when information isn't actively being used ;) Anyway, the earth rotating around the sun is elementary level science. It's sad, he doesn't understand that. Oh well. :(

I agree! I haven't been in a science class (as a student) since the year 1998. BUT I have immersed myself frequently in scientific topics that I am fascinated by and I follow reputable scientific bodies.

I'm more embarrassed.

This is fallacy!

Crops don't care where the carbon comes from. They'll use what's available for them.

Farmers can do grow foods that are nutritious. Scientists like Dr Patrick Moore says that
anti-climate groups are doing more harm than good and often lying about what is
taking place.

The best thing we can do for poor nations is make energy cheaper for them. Green energy is
expensive and forcing poorer nations to stop using fossil fuels only keeps them poor.

I perform a quick fact check. The likely source for spreading the "20% greener" claim is Jordan Peterson. He posted the claim on X last year, but he does not cite a source. (The linked NY Times article does not mention the greening.)

I did find a report from NASA in 2019 which supports the idea of "greening." It says the Earth is 5% greener than the previous 20 years. The article explains:

The world is literally a greener place than it was 20 years ago, and data from NASA satellites has revealed a counterintuitive source for much of this new foliage: China and India. A new study shows that the two emerging countries with the world’s biggest populations are leading the increase in greening on land. The effect stems mainly from ambitious tree planting programs in China and intensive agriculture in both countries.

So the greening is the result of tree planting and agriculture. I find this an interesting coincidence because today happens to be Arbor Day.

Actually, it wasn't Jordan Peterson who originally reported it, but NASA. Jordan Peterson is whom I heard it from, so I googled it
to verify if his claim was credible or not. It was!

and;

so this is a bad thing only because it doesn't fit the government narrative back when Biden was president. That has changed now,
scientist aren't being threatened with the government withholding research grants if they don't speak the government line.

I referenced and linked to a NASA report. It's the same report which your two sources are reporting on.

The Earth is not 20% greener as reported by Peterson. It is 5% greener.

The Earth is not greener because "plants love carbon." The Earth is greener because China and India are engaged in massive tree planting initiatives and agriculture.

It's a fact. Not just one study. Many studies.
Crops don't care where the carbon comes from.
It's not the origin of carbon, it's the amount of carbon dioxide. Higher carbon dioxide levels mean lower nutritional level. Not debatable.

Lots more like that.

expensive
That's wrong, too.

Wind energy has been the cheapest source of new electricity in the U.S. for about a decade, according to the Lazard financial services company’s annual levelized cost of energy report.

You should at least read some of the abstract from one of the research papers referenced in the article.

Elevated atmospheric CO2 (eCO2) enhances the yield of vegetables and could also affect their nutritional quality. We conducted a meta-analysis using 57 articles consisting of 1,015 observations and found that eCO2 increased the concentrations of fructose, glucose, total soluble sugar, total antioxidant capacity, total phenols, total flavonoids, ascorbic acid, and calcium in the edible part of vegetables by 14.2%, 13.2%, 17.5%, 59.0%, 8.9%, 45.5%, 9.5%, and 8.2%, respectively, but decreased the concentrations of protein, nitrate, magnesium, iron, and zinc by 9.5%, 18.0%, 9.2%, 16.0%, and 9.4%.

As atmospheric CO2 levels increase, there is a decrease in concentrations of certain nutrients.

Farmers can do grow foods that are nutritious. Scientists like Dr Patrick Moore says that
anti-climate groups are doing more harm than good and often lying about what is
taking place.

How do we know Dr. Patrick Moore isn't lying?

The best thing we can do for poor nations is make energy cheaper for them. Green energy is
expensive and forcing poorer nations to stop using fossil fuels only keeps them poor.

Poor nations disagree. They would rather "skip" fossil fuels and go straight to renewables. From the article:

As the world's leading superpowers struggle to make the transition from fossil-based energy systems to more sustainable options, 47 of the world's poorest nations have pledged to skip fossil fuels altogether and jump straight to using 100 percent renewable energy instead.

The ambitious goal was laid out by members of the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) during the final day of the UN Climate Change Conference in Morocco last week, which discussed ways for countries to hit the targets set by the Paris Agreement late last year.

The idea, in a nutshell, is to have some of the world's poorest countries skip from pre-industrialisation practices to renewables, allowing them to basically avoid the 'messy part' in the middle where a need for more energy to support economic growth spurs fossil fuel use to dangerously high levels.

In economics, this sort of skipping is known as 'leapfrogging' and it occurs when a society skips a step of development that other countries have taken.

The poorest nations are learning from the mistakes of the richest nations.

The 20% greener was my mistake. 20 is the years the study was made.
Yes, it's 5% greener.

So what? Is that a bad thing?

Carbon isn't the problem as people think.
Here's a video with Dr Patrick Moore. I'm sure
there is disagreement, but I happen to agree with
him.
