Cambridge Dictionary:

patience of Job
idiom
the ability to remain patient and to do what you think you should do despite having many problems
The idiom "patience of Job" came from King James Version’s translation of James 5:

10Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience. 11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.
Since then, the meaning of the word "patience" has changed somewhat, Oxford Dictionary:

able to accept or tolerate delays, problems, or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious
According to this modern definition, Job wasn't exactly patient, NIV Job 6:

1 Then Job replied: 2“If only my anguish could be weighed and all my misery be placed on the scales!
Job was annoyed by his friends, and he was in anguish.

3 It would surely outweigh the sand of the seas— no wonder my words have been impetuous.
He recognized his own impetuous, reactive words.

4 The arrows of the Almighty are in me, my spirit drinks in their poison; God’s terrors are marshaled against me.
He complained to God.

11“What strength do I have, that I should still hope? What prospects, that I should be patient?
Job recognized his own impatience in the modern sense of the word, Job 21:

4 “Is my complaint directed to a human being? Why should I not be impatient?
Now, let's return to James 5. This time from NIV translation:

10 Brothers and sisters, as an example of patience [G3115] in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.
Strong's 3115: Patience, forbearance, longsuffering. From the same as makrothumos; longanimity, i.e., forbearance or fortitude.

Job is still an example of patience to some extent. However, more specifically:

11 As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered [G5278].
Strong's 5278: From hupo and meno; to stay under, i.e. Remain; figuratively, to undergo, i.e. Bear, have fortitude, persevere.

You have heard of Job’s perseverance [G5281] and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.
Was Job patient?

In the old English sense of the word, he was. In the modern sense, he was not quite patient, but he did persevere.

Well said. He has never struck me as patient -- though he is 1000x more patient than I am. Ha!

It depends on how you look at it. He was impatient in the ways that Tony mentioned, but I think he was quite patient in keeping his faith in God despite his horrible circumstances instead of cursing God like Satan wanted him to and like his wife told him to do.
