If the message preached depicts a God who is not good, who does not reward but only punish ... then they will not come to faith, even if they lose the argument.
This is why we preach the Good News and the Bad News together. If we leave out the bad news, then this also gives a bad slant that God simply forgives everyone because He is all-loving. So, all you have to do is believe, and then you can carry on in your sin and you are still saved. So, there is no change in the person. This is very similar to what D Taylor's sign says. Believe and you are saved. This is true, but those who believe will act upon their beliefs by leaving their sin. The change of mind is also a change of heart.

Exactly. Repentance is not sorrow, but change.

In the beginning humans were corrupted by eating a fruit of knowing good and evil.

Turning the gospel into a fruit of knowing good and evil results in people experiencing a separation from God post salvation. So not recommended as a foundation.

Everyone is in need of salvation, it is important to remember that after listing all the sins in Romans 1, Paul continues in Romans 2 implying judgment upon those who focus on this message since it is the kindness of God that leads us to repentance.

Jeremiah the depressive spoke the same message for 20 years and got no results, God in this era is doing something different.

Therefore, if you want people to repent, kindness is the way. That's what the bible says.

Also, be careful that "prayer" is not a hiding place where you feel you excuse yourself from sharing the Gospel. Many people will pray and pray and pray for revival but then they keep their mouths closed, hoping that the world will hear the Gospel.
Yes! Amen!

Guys, I think you are my brothers!

If all one can do is hand the groceries over that is fine

I can understand being afraid

Just pray for the HS to come

Over and over, come, Holy spirit come

Turn away and cry if need be, pray silently or with others too. Ask God to show you what you should do.

Not everyone has the same gifts or abilities?

Here's a clip of street preacher/ evangelist "Captain" Kirk Roberts in action in Leicester (England) city centre, which has a massive nonchristian immigrant population, he's had no theology college training, he just gets out there and does it..:)

And here are some other Christian evangelists in Leicester city centre-

rel-clock-t.jpg

This verse springs to mind-
"In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. On my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will speak." (Joel 2:28-32)

You know, some people can't even speak, think about what they do to express their faith.

Words can only say so much.

Words+the Holy Spirit

or

charitable actions + the Holy spirit

If one cannot speak, but pray, then its a blessing to pray for others indeed

Yes works without faith are dead works, avoid those.

As a hint, maybe incorporate something like the sign of the cross to your daily routine, just so people know where you stand. It also doubles as a prayer, so can't hurt.

Some in fields of action have noted if they simply pray something as well known as "Our Father" before getting stuck into the action, they have been joined by other believers, and possibly by others simply in fear. IMHO it also dedicates the work to the Lord.

Therefore, if you want people to repent, kindness is the way. That's what the bible says.
Kindness is good. By being kind, it can open up an opportunity to share the Gospel. It can also be a witness. But we still have to tell people the Gospel. If we don't then how shall they call on Him in whom they have not known? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a person to tell them?
The kindest thing you can do for a person is to warn them of their eternal condemnation that they are under. This too is an action.

Paul pointed out people's sins and addressed the conscience in the hope that people would repent.

Paul Addressed the Conscience
-Romans 2:14–15
"Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law... they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them."
Paul appeals to the conscience as a God-given inner witness to right and wrong.

2 Corinthians 4:2
"Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to everyone's conscience in the sight of God."
Paul deliberately preached truth in a way that would appeal to the hearer's conscience, not just their intellect.

Paul Confronted Sin Directly
Acts 17:30–31 (Areopagus in Athens)
"In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed..."
Paul speaks of sin and coming judgment to call people to repentance.

Acts 24:24–25 (Before Governor Felix) "Paul talked about righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come. Felix was afraid and said, 'That’s enough for now! You may leave.'"
Paul’s message clearly convicted Felix—he didn't avoid difficult topics like sin or judgment.

Romans 3:19–20 "Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God... through the law we become conscious of our sin."
Paul shows that the Law is meant to expose sin, making people aware of their guilt before God.

1 Corinthians 6:9–11 "Do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers... will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed..."
Paul doesn’t shy away from naming specific sins, but he follows up with the hope of redemption.

Galatians 3:24 Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.
Paul’s approach of used the Law to awaken the conscience and reveal sin before pointing to Christ

Paul didn’t just preach love and forgiveness or simply do good deeds—he often began by addressing sin, conscience, righteousness, and judgment so that the Gospel would make sense and convict the heart. This is a clear biblical pattern for evangelism.

Just pray for the HS to come
Yes. Do pray to be filled. This is very important. Without being filled, you probably will not have a drive to talk to the lost.
NOTE: Many believers say that they are filled with the Spirit, but there is little evidence. If we look in the bible, time and time again, it says that they were filled with the Spirit, and they spoke. It says this many, many times. Or else it will say they were filled with the Spirit and then they prophesied. So, they opened their mouths again. People who have the Spirit will open their mouths.
Also, check out Rev 19:10 for what prophecy is. It is when we testify of Jesus. So, when we tell the Gospel.

Prophecy need not be telling the future. It may simply be giving scripture in a new light that speaks directly to people. Now, the Gospel is certainly foremost in this.

Also, another thing to pray for is more love for the lost (your neighbour). If your love is strong enough, it will overcome fear. This is similar to if your child fell into a river that had crocodiles in it. You would not hesitate to jump in and save them. Love overcomes fear.

Not everyone has the same gifts or abilities?
God did make us all different. Some he made to be ears, some he made to be hands, some he made to be a mouth and some he made to be feet.
If you are an ear, listen to people's problems and then tell them the Gospel.
If you are a hand, mow someone's lawn and weed their garden and then tell them the Gospel.
If you are a mouth, teach people and then tell them the Gospel.
If you are feet, walk to the parks or down the street and then tell people the Gospel.

We do have different giftings and abilities and with these, we should bring Glory to God. We should not use our gifts as an excuse not to give God glory.
I am a foot. I often choose to go to the parks and give God glory. Sometimes I am a hand, and I share the Gospel. Sometimes I listen to people and then I tell them the Gospel.
We are not all called to be street preachers, but we should all have a desire to say the Gospel to as many people as possible
You know, some people can't even speak, think about what they do to express their faith.

Words can only say so much.
Yes. In some cases, people are not blessed with speech. But their desire should still be to bring Glory to God in whatever way they can. We are to make the most of what God has given us.
If the stars in the heavens who do not have a mouth will speak of His greatness night after night. How much more should we who have mouths tell others of His great love?
Paul was not a good speaker, but he still spoke. The same with Peter and John
When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus." — Acts 4:13 (NIV)
God has blessed us with mouths, we should use them to bring Him glory.

People say repent, but are not often clear themselves of WHAT, simple as it may be. Stop putting our will ahead of the will of God. His will is we act in servitude to each other rather than lead the self-serving lives we have led. A simple reversal of what took place in the Garden. The world is backwards to the ways of the Kingdom. Selfishness is it's god and the cause of all woes in mankind. Repentance is change. Join the counter-culture.

I am reminded of how the proverbs teaches us to be cautious of those who use too many words. Kindly note, that argumentative nature of yours is fleshly and not a spiritual gift.

Sorry, I see that I have offended you. Can you please show me the place where I offended you?
I thought that adding bible verses was a good thing. But maybe there are too many words in the verses. Though there has been someone who left a like on the comment. So, maybe it is not as bad as you are making out.
I was not meaning to argue. I was simply wanting to point out the importance of sharing the Gospel. Many people will try to minimise it and that is wrong. If you choose not to share the Gospel, then that is up to you. Blessings

You haven't offended me. You have worked so hard I was meditating on Proverbs 9:8 and 2nd Corinthians 12:9 and presented a means of further improvement. Continue being excellent and excel further.

So, how long have you been sharing the Gospel? How do you do it?
Where two or more believers are gathered together, there is The Holy Spirit

When people come to get food from the church, we believers have the HS among us and that can touch the people that we serve.

I'm told that nothing more is necessary to do or to say

However, Gods whispering into my heart could not be ignored.

He showed me all the pain and suffering that came with being hungry or homeless and so on, and how deeply touched people were by the church providing them food.

They were in pain and were seeking answers

"Why am I suffering, where is God when it hurts, how do I find some help beyond the food and to deal with the suffering?"

It just seemed natural to want to bless them with some words of hope and some invitations to come to church

Finally, when a middle aged man broke down sobbing after getting his groceries, my heart was pulled to asked him if He needed prayer.

It could just not be contained any more, like there was a bursting point, and I just had to reach out to people and show them the love of God for their souls.

His son had just committed suicide and he did not want to live any more.

So it often went way beyond the groceries and was really about what brought them to this point of need in the first place.

Right, I don't have the gift of being able to speak publicly, (and my voice sounds like a parrot on helium anyway), but I can write better than I can talk, and have been bouncing around net discussion forums for the past 25 years..:)
PS- I like this quote by Francis of Assissi- "Preach the gospel, and if necessary use words" which means we can set an example of Christianity by our deeds and actions without saying or writing a word..:)

The essence of the saying is good, but too many people take it to mean that we do not have to say the Gospel. They think that our actions are the Gospel, but they are not. We need to use words for people to hear the message. Romans 10:14.
Our kind actions give credibility to what we say. So, they are a witness. And we can either be a good or a bad witness.
If we do bad things, our word becomes compromised, and people will be less likely to believe what we say. The opposite of this is when we act in love, this will give our word credibility. For example, in a court of law, if you have 2 people with conflicting testimonies, one is a prostitute, and the other is a doctor. The doctor is the one most people would believe, as his word is not compromised like the prostitute. He is a good witness.
So, your actions validate what you believe, and then, when you do say the Gospel, people will be more likely to believe what you say.
We need to be careful that we do share the Gospel out loud. Our good deeds are not the power of God unto salvation. They only give us an opportunity to share and they give our words credibility. Then when we do say the Gospel, it will give glory to God.

Another example. If I were talking to someone downtown and a passerby heard me use God's name as a cuss word, that would not be very good. Then if I were to go to a park a few days after this and say the Gospel to that same passerby, my words that I say have been tainted because of my previous conduct. He would think to himself, "This fuller does not even truly believe himself because he uses his own God's name as a cuss word." So, I am therefore not a good witness. My actions did not bring Glory to God. Instead, they were a disgrace. Our actions substantiate our words. Therefore, bringing Glory to God.

So, love our neighbour by caring for their needs. But also, love them enough to warn them of the condemnation that they are under. It would be unloving to know of God, everlasting life, Judgement, death and the way out, and then not to tell people of it. Love by deed and word.

A friend told me of a time when she felt compelled to give a dishevelled old man in the food line she was serving, a hug. The church was agast at this but the man said that was the first human touch he had had in 30 years and it renewed him enough in faith in other humans to face another 30 (even though his days were numbered)
