I was a borderline atheist until an experience left me "unsure." Up for debate and discussion as long as things remain cordial.

OK, a little extra background on my "experience" I was as I said an agnostic but with no actual belief. I was on holiday with someone I liked (a lot). Things were probably never going to progress but the day she left for home I got very drunk. I left the bar and faced a decision - turn right for my room, turn left and walk into the sea. I was turning right to be fair but I spotted a small church and walked inside. In my state I asked for help and was slightly "ill"
I saw a light and felt warmth! To quote the Pink Floyd song "I turned to look but it was gone" but I was left with an overwhelming sense of guilt, shame and warmth.
To this day I do not know if what I saw was real or just the product of excessive alcohol and depression. I am still an "unbeliever" and an agnostic, but I wish that moment had lasted longer.

If I'm understanding correctly:

:whitecheck: Looking for Love
:whitecheck: Feeling sadness and/or emptiness when Love is absent
:whitecheck: Encountering something you cannot necessarily explain
:whitecheck: Looking for "more"

Sounds like you are on a narrow but good path.

"Open the door and He shall come in and dine"

Check out John Burke's work. Might give you some expanded thoughts. :)

We are all unsure until we have a few experiences with God.

He does cool things.

My suggestion to you, is to ask God to show Himself to you.

He responds to humble people, and He is always overjoyed to welcome people in and show them who He is.

No complicated stuff, just "Jesus if you are real, show me."

This is when He started showing me who He is, and I've seen it happen to many others.

I do not think, personally, that it was the alcohol.

(But I know Him already, so I'm cheating a little bit here. lol)

My dad was agnostic until late in his life. He lived to be 95,
Only those who seek and remain open will find. I pray you find what you are looking for.

I used to be into whatever mind-numbing substance I could get. Raised Christian, mind you. I eventually became a heroin addict, hooked on pot, cigarettes and alcohol became the stick once I got "clean". One day, lying in my bed....I saw a shining man who leaned in and gave me his hand. Upon grabbing his hand, I realized I had been in a grave, and he had pulled me up. I will never forget...the thought that I had no clue why I was "supposed" to believe, what did it all mean, why did my family honor Christ...it left me and I dedicated my life to Jesus. I will never regret it. I got completely sober, changed my life, got a real job, got a real relationship with my family, married a wonderful man.

I will only say that if I hadn't taken a chance on my encounter, I do honestly think I wouldn't have such a rich and full life right now...I probably still would be struggling, making petty mistakes and wasting my life. But look - what do you *feel your experience amounts to? Do you *feel like the Lord was reaching out to you? Once I watched "The Boondock Saints", and I saw Willem Dafoe talking about right from wrong. It was quite compelling, his character being a homosexual police officer, and he was struggling with the faith of the Catholic brothers, who were very devout. I learned later that Willem Dafoe also played Jesus in the Last Temptation of Christ. Hey - it meant something to me!

But the journey is completely about you. Whatever you get out of it...is valid.
