Nevertheless, I still have a real problem with the judge and the courts desiring to completely financially bankrupt Rudy Giuliani to the tune of multiple millions of dollars.
A jury determined the amount.

If I was on a jury for a civil trial like this one or a similar one, I would find it difficult to blame the defendant for the actions of those who were sending death threats being criminally harassing towards the plaintiff.
He called them traitors to America then after he knew they were being targeted for what he accused them of, he kept doing it.

Those who were actually harassing the plaintiffs with death threats should have been the ones charged with a crime and put on trial in my opinion.
However, I do agree that Mr. Giuliani should have behaved in a much better way and responded in a much better legal way throughout that civil trial and after that trial.
Nevertheless, I still have a real problem with the judge and the courts desiring to completely financially bankrupt Rudy Giuliani to the tune of multiple millions of dollars.
I think a big part of this is that he continued to defame them for years and he was sanctioned specifically because he refused to cooperate with discovery.

I agree. The punishment, in part, is meant to be sufficient so that he doesn't reoffend. There is a case to be made that it wasn't enough to prevent that.

Rudy Giuliani misses court-mandated deadline to respond to contempt motion: report

Judge Beryl Howell warned Giuliani last month that if he did not respond to the motion, the court would treat it as "conceding" he is in civil contempt, opening him up to whatever sanctions Freeman and Moss argue are appropriate.
Giuliani doubles the contempt.

Rudy Giuliani held in contempt in case brought by two former Georgia election workers he defamed

Judge Lewis Liman said Giuliani’s noncompliance was willful and accused him of “running the clock” to stall until the trial date.

The judge said he put very little weight on Giuliani’s “self-serving” testimony claiming any noncompliance was innocent.

The sanctions add to a pile of significant consequences the former New York mayor, US attorney and Donald Trump attorney has faced in court in recent years.

It comes less than two weeks before a scheduled trial where Giuliani will fight to keep ownership of a $3.5 million Palm Beach, Florida, condo he says he lives in.

If Rudy were born 2,500 years ago in Greece, right now we would be reading about him as some kind of Greek tragedy.
What's the tragedy? The people that thought he was the light at the end of the tunnel to save them from a "stolen election" found out he was just a train coming the other way.

Maybe other people can learn from Rudy's embarrassing and illegal behavior. It is refreshing to see our courts mete out some real justice occasionally.
He's still got the civil case filed by his employee whom he allegedly raped but never paid.

He lied about election fraud, and in doing so attacked US democracy itself, and furthered the causes of rogue nations engaged in propaganda efforts to undermine the US government. He should be charged with treason.

No, the constitution is very clear on what constitutes treason and this does not rise to that level.

The tragedy is a man who had such good reputation after 9\11 managed to ruin himself and his good name.

Judge Howell is fair but firm.

due to ongoing issues with his knee, heart and lungs, as well as what he said were death threats linked to his criticisms of Iran [Giuliani asked that he not attend a contempt hearing in person]

U.S. District Beryl Howell gave Giuliani permission to attend the hearing remotely on one condition: He must declare, under penalty of perjury, that he cannot travel anywhere because of those reasons and therefore would not travel for the next month — including over Trump’s inauguration.

Turns out he can make it after all.

For those who don't know, Judge Howell holds court in the Pettyman Federal Courthouse which is so close to the Capitol that the Inaugural stage can be seen from the front plaza.
Turns out he can make it after all.
Brava, Judge Howell.
