I do apologize, I thought that your diatribes against Biden came from someone who favors Trump. I apologize for my error.

Thank you. I've made it abundantly clear on this forum that I am an independent. Some refuse to accept that. So I appreciate your graciousness here.

I believe that many Americans have cried out for a choice other than two 80-year olds. Now those folks have someone to vote for.

If only it were that simple. Harris is not someone that someone with a conservative-lean can vote for. Also, time will tell, but I think the Democrats' current exuberant state is mostly in the fact that they don't have to contend with Biden's obvious mental acuity issues any more.

WaPo had this to say about Kamala Harris back in 2021:

Staffers who worked for Harris before she was vice president said one consistent problem was that Harris would refuse to wade into briefing materials prepared by staff members, then berate employees when she appeared unprepared.
“It’s clear that you’re not working with somebody who is willing to do the prep and the work,” one former staffer said. “With Kamala you have to put up with a constant amount of soul-destroying criticism and also her own lack of confidence. So you’re constantly sort of propping up a bully and it’s not really clear why.”
I guess we'll find out soon enough if she's more prepared now.

Of course, as before, they still could stay at home or vote 3rd party, allowing others to make the choice that they will be living with for four years.

Unfortunately unless something drastic changes, that is very likely what I'll do.

You do realize that even 6 months would have put us back in January sometime, right? Before all of the primaries, right?

Certainly you don't believe the big lie that Biden's public cognitive collapse at the debate happened overnight, do you?
It could have. It happened to my father-in-law immediately after general anesthesia following knee replacement. When he awoke...not all of him awoke again.

At that age, that decline will occur is predictable, but the rate and factors that can drastically change the rate are unpredictable.

Fair point. But is that what happened here?

Biden's cognitive decline has been on display for a long time. Democrats say they first noticed it in 2021. Biden's mental collapse didn't happen overnight.

From what I can see, Biden is often on and sometimes off. I don't doubt that he can focus as long as necessary to carry out the business on his desk. To be honest, it did not seem Trump was capable of even that during his presidency.

But Biden's ability to go the distance on a long, tough day is certainly questionable, and the country needs a president who can go the distance on a long, tough day. That's not Biden...and it's not Trump., either. Trump shows a different appearance of cognitive decline., the appearance I saw in my father-in-law.

Democrats understand that the choice is binary: Trump or Harris (as it was Trump or Biden). Many, many, many Democrats had lots of issues with Biden in 2020. That mattered not at all. And in 2024, the positions and abilities of Harris will be compared not with what we want but rather compared with Trump.

I certainly accept the judgement of those who prefer Trump; I just strongly disagree. And yes, I understand those who choose NOT to make a decision and allow the votes of others to determine who will be president. There have aways been those who refuse to choose.

Of that I am sure. Harris has two great qualities as a candidate for Democrats:
  • She's not senile.
  • She's not Trump.
That's how low we seem to have set the bar in American politics.

I certainly accept the judgement of those who prefer Trump; I just strongly disagree. And yes, I understand those who choose NOT to make a decision and allow the votes of others to determine who will be president. There have aways been those who refuse to choose.

I take comfort in knowing that no matter what happens, God is still on the throne. And this year, that's just going to have to be enough.

It seems the media can't even keep straight what they've told people...

Working overtime to try to distance Harris from the debacle at the border. Just another lie.

What makes you say that? Can you cite examples of his cognitive decline (with video evidence of course)?

From what I can see, Biden is often on and sometimes off.

IMO, I'd flip those and say Biden is sometimes on and often off. In the 3 weeks where everyone was pressuring Biden to drop out of the race, there were reports that said Biden had good days and bad days.

But regardless, my question to you would be, what if something really big happens on a bad day? Are you confident that Biden has the ability to respond decisively to any situation at any time on any given day?

I answered that question in the same post you partially quoted.

Not directly, but your statement that he can't go the distance on a long, tough day does seem to imply that you have concerns. I guess since no one seems to think this is a real issue, we just have to cross our fingers and hope for the best for the next 6 months that something doesn't happen on one of those long, tough days.

Of course they do. There's an old line from a Jimmy Stewart movie I remember which sums it up......There's the truth and then there's the legend.....and when truth actually clashes with the legend one longs to believe they'll go with the legend. It's convenient and it feels good and we can make ourselves believe it if we try.

Folks are so, so mad that Biden stepped down.

Did you really want the Dems to do what they should have done and had Biden drop out last year? Do you guess that Trump would have had a better chance against the winner of a set of primaries?

Could the reality just be that Trump is really upset that he can't run against Biden.

My question is why he is so afraid of Harris. Surely, open primaries were likely to produce a much more difficult opponent than Harris.
