Fireworks Safety for July 4th, 2024:
As we celebrate our nation's birthday with fireworks on July 4th, it is important to remember to use them safely. Here are some tips to keep in mind:
A word on idolatry and patriotism:
In Matthew 5:34, Jesus says "But I say unto you, swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne. Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool." This verse emphasizes the importance of avoiding making oaths, even if it means losing an opportunity to boast about oneself or one's nation.
Exodus 20:4 states "You shall not make for yourself any carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters under the sea."
These two verses remind us that true devotion should be directed away from material possessions or human constructs. Fervent patriotism can also become an idol, leading us astray from the truth and causing division among people. Let us strive to approach all things with humility and gratitude for what God has given us, rather than becoming overly attached to worldly values and beliefs. These words from above are the reasons why I do not celebrate the 4th or sing any anthems or pledge, but I do enjoy the $5 bratwursts and pizza from the food trucks in a park with my friend. The only holidays I celebrate are Christmas, Easter, New Year, and Thanksgiving (thankful for Jesus and family).
I wish everyone a joyous and peaceful Independence Day celebration! May you take time to appreciate the freedoms and blessings that our country has provided, while also remembering to not idolize anything or nation of this Earth. Have fun and stay safe!
As we celebrate our nation's birthday with fireworks on July 4th, it is important to remember to use them safely. Here are some tips to keep in mind:
- Never aim a firework at people, animals, buildings or vehicles. Keep a safe distance from other people and flammable objects when lighting fireworks.
- Do not light fireworks indoors or in enclosed spaces. Always have water nearby in case of a fire.
- Use only approved fireworks and never attempt to make your own. Dispose of used fireworks properly by soaking them in water before throwing them away. Be aware of local laws and regulations regarding fireworks usage.
