If you find that whenever you try to pray, all you want to say to God is, "Your will be done," do you think that's a good thing or a bad thing?

Who said the only two kinds of people in the world are those who say this to God and those to whom God says it? Shouldn't there be some people in both sets?

Well, we should let God's will be done, as we should trust in Him.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV): "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight."

These are important questions. It isn't a good or bad thing to say "Your will be done" and it isn't good or bad to ask for what you want either. We can influence our lives in many ways. For instance you may get up, go to work or you could work on a hobby or lay around all day. All these are done in our effort to direct our lives and do what we feel is the right thing to do at the time. They very well may not involve formal prayer. However, there are things that we have little control and can't directly influence. Perhaps a loved ones health or the direction of the country, etc. These desires are brought to God and He wants to please us, since He loves us. However, we are then trying to influence things that are beyond our control or total understanding of the consequences. That's why we basically say, "Even though I'm asking for this, I understand that it may not be what is ultimately for the best." i.e. Your will be done. We acknowledge our limitations of ultimate consequences, but ask a loving Father for His consideration.

The whole sentence of the verse is,

Matthew 6:10
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

This is tied to the whole setup of what planet earth itself is.

Isaiah 14:17
the man who made the world a desert, who overthrew its cities and would not let his captives go home?"

Anywhere outside of God's own dwelling realm will be a hell. Anywhere God's influence is withdrawn, the most evil and the most powerful will rule at the end. This happens to be Satan. Earth is a realm lying outside of God's dwelling realm (ever since Adam was kicked out of Eden). Satan has turned it into a desert or wilderness. That's why Satan is referred to as the god of this world. God hasn't yet fully withdrawn His influence simply because He has an unfinished job here to save His lost sheep.

We thus pray that God would do and exercise what He does in His own dwelling realm.
