No Sickness Comes from God

Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. Most of the work of Christ was healing the sick. Jesus attributes sickness to the works of Lucifer when He says in Luke 13:16, Ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day? He didn’t say, “This woman who hath a love-token from the Lord should be grateful for it.” He didn’t stoop down and whisper, “Dear lady, you with arthritis crippling you until you cannot stand upright, it’s the will of the Father for you to be like this. He sent me to let you know it’s His love-token.” No. Jesus set her free; He healed her. That’s love; that’s God’s love. She was made whole.

Made a study on just this a while ago: Verses on Disabilities or Struggles (Gen 3, Romans 8, John 9, Isaiah 41)

DateApril 27, 2024
VerseGenesis 3:1-5: "Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, ‘Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?’ And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’ But the serpent said to the woman, ‘You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.’"

Genesis 3:17-19: "And to Adam he said, ‘Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you,‘You shall not eat of it,’cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.’"

Romans 8:20-23: "For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies."

John 9:1-3: "As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth. And his disciples asked him, ‘Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?’ Jesus answered, ‘It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him.’"

Isaiah 41:10: "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
ExplanationThe first two passages from Genesis describe the fall of humanity, specifically Adam and Eve's disobedience to God's command in the Garden of Eden. The serpent, who represents Satan or temptation, deceives Eve by questioning God's word and promising her that she won't die if she eats the forbidden fruit. Instead, she and Adam experience consequences such as physical toil, pain, and death. These passages highlight the entrance of sin and suffering into the world.

The last three passages from Romans, John, and Isaiah speak to God's presence and redemption in the midst of suffering and hardships. In Romans, Paul describes creation as groaning with us as it waits for redemption. John's passage about the blind man illustrates that God can bring good out of difficult circumstances, and Isaiah reassures us that God is always with us and will help us through our struggles.

These passages relate to disabilities in several ways: 1) they acknowledge the presence of suffering and hardships in our world, including those related to physical, genetic and developmental differences; 2) they offer hope for redemption and restoration through God's power and love; and 3) they remind us of our need for dependence on God in the midst of life's challenges. The Genesis passages may not directly address disabilities, but they lay the foundation for understanding the brokenness and need for redemption that exists in all aspects of creation. The later passages from Romans, John, and Isaiah offer hope and encouragement for those living with disabilities or facing any form of suffering. These passages emphasize the importance of empathy, compassion, and understanding for all individuals, regardless of their abilities or circumstances.

I think you misunderstand. Everything is in God's control, whether Satan, sickness, or human choice.

Exo 4.11 The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord?

God may allow Satan or demons to afflict men, whether to test them, to chastise them, to judge them, or to allow them to suffer as innocent victims. But God's purpose towards the godly is good. And Satan is limited to what God allows him.

Job 1.12 The Lord said to Satan, “Very well, then, everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.”

There comes a time when Satan wants to completely destroy men, whether they are flawed or weak and vulnerable. But God will not let him fulfill his ambitions.

Zech 3.2 The Lord said to Satan, “The Lord rebuke you, Satan! The Lord, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebuke you! Is not this man a burning stick snatched from the fire?”

Amos 7.4 This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me: The Sovereign Lord was calling for judgment by fire; it dried up the great deep and devoured the land. 5 Then I cried out, “Sovereign Lord, I beg you, stop! How can Jacob survive? He is so small!”
6 So the Lord relented.

John 11 4 " No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.”

It is clear why God allows things to happen. This is the biggest complaint people have with God is why does He allow what He allows.

Why did Paul boast in his infirmities? Why did he tell Timothy to drink a little wine for his often infirmities? Why does Romans chapter 8 say that pestilence can't separate us from God's love? Please realize this chapter is teaching us we that we will face great hardship and not have good health necesarily. Indeed we are sheep led to the slaughter.

Jesus did physical miracles as a sign but in my opinion the real promise is spiritual healing. Jesus said that the sick need a physician and he refers to sin and spirital blindness but not physical illness.

What we do when promising physical healing is destroy people's faith. They end up thinking that their faith is false because they dont get physical healing. They torment themselves instead of growing in grace. Paul said that God's grace was sufficient for his infirmities. I have mental illness or spiritual warfare. I'm OK. God loves me. My body is old and run down. Its ok.

John 11.4 only explains one particular cause for someone's suffering. It is not a complete list of reasons for suffering adversity. But certainly, it is one cause.

Yes, suffering seems to happen arbitrarily sometimes, and is such a test that we tend to throw up our hands and surrender to our fate. It is an incredibly hard thing to go through no matter what it is.

This is where our metal is tested. And I pray the best for anybody going through troubles when they are believers. Well, I feel sorry for anybody, believer or not, who go through difficult times, particularly when they seem to be the victim and not the antagonist.

No it’s not. Even in Job, Satan needed God to give him boils.
And even today , All that are saved by GRACE does Christ bring SICKNESS and DEATH for those that EAT and DRINK in an Unworthy manner not discerning the body of Christ in 1 Cor 11:25- 34 .

And another in 1 Cor 5:1-5 when the Body of Christ refused n to judge one that was fornication to have his wife of the father , to deliver that one to SATAN for the death of the flesh .

Eli’s sons, Phinehas and Hophni, earned their reputation as “sons of Belial” because of their wickedness and disregard for the Lord. They committed immoral acts, including greed and immorality, even within the tabernacle—the house of worship12. Their behavior was reprehensible, and it led to severe consequences for them and their family. Eli, their father, tried to correct them, but they did not listen, and it was ultimately the Lord’s will to put them to death1. Their story serves as a cautionary tale about the consequences of disobedience and disrespect toward God.

He sent me to let you know it’s His love-token.” No. Jesus set her free; He healed her. That’s love; that’s God’s love. She was made whole.

In the OT, it was always punishment due to disobedience and unbelief but that was under the Law

Under the Law, God literally promised Israel that if they obey him, they will never fall sick (Deuteronomy 7:15, Exodus 15:26)

Under the promised kingdom of heaven on Earth, no one in Israel will be maim or sick too (Isaiah 33:24, Psalms 103:1-5.

Israel broke their covenant of Law that was given at Mount Sinai. They killed or ignored all the prophets that God repeatedly sent to them when they were separated into 2 kingdoms and went into captivity under Babylon, and then under Persia. (Matthew 21:33-46; Mark 12:1-12; Luke 20:9-19).

Thus, at the time of Jesus's first coming to Israel, many people in Israel are sick, demon possessed, precisely because they have forsaken that Law covenant. (Luke 13:11, Acts 3:2)

Jesus thus healed all of them as a sign to show Israel that he is their promised Messiah that will usher them to that promised kingdom (Deuteronomy 18:15, Luke 7:20-22, Acts 3:22-23, John 11:45-48).

Acts 10:38 is an especially beautiful summary by Peter to show that

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

But now, God no longer relates to us under the Law (Romans 6:14, 1 Timothy 1:9).

So when we believers are sick nowadays, we can be rest assured that it is not because we have disobeyed God in anyway.

Conversely, if we find ourselves getting better, it is NOT because we are currently doing something that pleases God.

That is what I believe Paul is teaching us now when he shared with us Romans 8:18-25 and 2 Corinthians 4:16-18, and when he gave Timothy common sense advice regarding his frequent stomach aliments.

So his disciples were not asking Jesus a stupid question there.

When you want to understand Jesus extensive healing ministry, its always good to go back to one of his first teaching to the nation of Israel about healing in Luke 4:27

And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian.

Despite giving them an extensive instruction in Leviticus about what Israel must do whenever a leper is cleansed, what do you think is the main reason God has for not healing ANY Israelite from leprosy, until Jesus's first coming to the nation of Israel (Mark 1:40-45, Matthew 8:1-4)?

Using a very popular bible passage that people think about when it comes to divine healing, isn't Christ the same yesterday, today and forever?

Doesn't he care about those lepers from Israel?

The story in Luke is there were 10 healed but only one gave thanks and glory to God. So because of this he was made whole or restored. We believe in restoration miracles. God is able to do far above and beyond what the doctors can do. But to answer your question they were not doing their part to be healed and receive the promises of God. We have a covenant. So if we do out part of the promise we can be sure that God will do His part. God is not a gene in a bottle. WE have to know what He wants to do in our life so we know what to pray for.

But to answer your question they were not doing their part to be healed and receive the promises of God.

So it is your belief that those OT Jewish lepers are ALL not healed because ALL of them were not doing their part, every single one of them?

So when Jesus healed the first leper in Mark 1:40-45, exactly what part was he doing, that those OT lepers did not do?

We have a covenant. So if we do out part of the promise we can be sure that God will do His part. God is not a gene in a bottle. WE have to know what He wants to do in our life so we know what to pray for.

Interesting view that I have bolded, given that you have indicated that you are a dispensationalist and also a Methodist.

In Romans 9:4, Paul stated the covenants belong to Israelites

Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;

Thus, do you separate Israel from the Body of Christ? If not, what sort of dispensationalist would you consider yourself to be?

So it is your belief that those OT Jewish lepers are ALL not healed
All 10 lepers were healed. The story of Jesus healing ten men with leprosy is told in the Bible in Luke 17:11-19. The story goes that while traveling to Jerusalem, Jesus and his apostles came across ten lepers in a village on the border of Galilee and Samaria. The lepers, who were excluded from society due to their disease, stood at a distance and called out to Jesus for mercy. Jesus told them to go and show themselves to the priests, and as they went, they were healed. One of the lepers, a Samaritan, returned to Jesus to thank him and praise God. Jesus asked where the other nine lepers were, and expressed disappointment that they had not returned to give thanks. Jesus then told the Samaritan, "Rise and go; your faith has made you well".

Someone has to have faith. It could be a parent, friends even an employer. It does not have to be the person healed. But someone has to intercede for them and have faith for them. That is why people are all the time asking me to pray for them. They do not have enough faith to receive what they need from God so they are looking for someone that does have the faith to believe to receive.

Its not my belief, its what Jesus literally said in Luke 4:27.

You don't accept what he said there?

All 10 lepers were healed. The story of Jesus healing ten men with leprosy is told in the Bible in Luke 17:11-19. The story goes that while traveling to Jerusalem, Jesus and his apostles came across ten lepers in a village on the border of Galilee and Samaria. That is why people are all the time asking me to pray for them. They do not have enough faith to receive what they need from God so they are looking for someone that does have the faith to believe to receive.

So, to confirm, you hold the doctrine that:
  1. God always wants to heal and healing is already provided for today.
  2. But if you are not healed after prayer, its because of the lack of faith, whether self or others?

More than that. God wants us to walk in divine health. He is a God of absolute Justice. He does not allow anything to happen to people that they do not deserve or merit in someway. Some people believe our own positive energy can heal us. Sometimes God uses doctors. We see this with the law of Karma and we see this with the Law of attraction. We draw upon the energy of the universe to heal us.

I see, yeah I understand that is a popular doctrine, and given the link you provided in the OP, it fits the doctrine there as well.

Would you consider yourself a Word of Faith believer then, given the terms you used, law of attraction etc? Do you listen to the preaching of EW Kenyon, Hagin, Copeland, Bill Johnson etc?
