.....even after he himself has repeatedly referred to his political opposition as:

"MAGA Republicans have made their choice. They embrace anger. They thrive on chaos. They live not in the light of truth but in the shadow of lies."

"We cannot and must not tolerate hate."

It would be nice if he would make up his mind.

Bullies generally start talking comradery and good will when it looks like the tables are about to turn on them... regardless of affiliation. Perhaps it is necessary before a repeat of the pre-election civil actions of two years ago, before the next election when the pot is brought back to a boil with the same players who haven't realized yet they were forgotten about after the last time.

Has he referred to them as "enemies of the people"? Deploring someone isn't the same as hating them. You can disapprove while tolerating.

He has a reputation for frankness.

He was just speaking the truth. He was describing behaviors that are unacceptable, undemocratic, and dangerous. He said we must condemn their behaviors.

It's exactly the same thing. If Trump, or any other Republican would be caught saying that homosexuals, transsexuals, or drag queens are deplorable, it would immediately be labeled as "hate speech".

You make a choice in denying that the election was lost fairly. You make a choice in ignoring the facts. You make a choice to look for means to overturn and cause harm to the democratic process. Those actions are deplorable.

And to be honest, so is using the massacre of five innocent people to make a political point.

And anyone who deplores another, calling them the "biggest threat to democracy" and inciting hateful acts against them is using hate speech.

And to be honest, so is using the massacre of five innocent people to make a political point.

Then you deplore biden. Good to know.

Personally, I ended up agreeing with Oompa Loompa that you can deplore others without hating them. In fact, you can even love others while deploring their actions. It shouldn't be considered hate speech. I couldn't deplore those who deplore others... because that would be deplorable.

So although Biden may have been overgeneralizing with MAGA, I'm willing to give him a pass. He does make some good points, after all.

If he was just overgeneralizing, he wouldn't repeat the same hateful rhetoric against his political opponents unless he actually means what he's saying.

Being a threat to democracy. Accepting obvious lies as being the truth and claiming the truth as lies. Refusing to accept the will of the people. I think people like that are misguided. I think that they are easily led. I think that they are in denial. I'm bemused by them. Often frustrated by them. But I don't hate them. And calling them out for what they say and do is not hate speech by any stretch of the imagination.
Then you deplore biden. Good to know.
It's deplorable whoever does it. Period. But surely you are not referring to his comment on the obvious problem with guns. Surely not...

That... doesn't really make sense. What does overgeneralizing have to do with repeating? And I'm not agreeing with the whole "hateful" thing.

'cause it is hateful.
Then calling Republicans deplorable is equally hateful. Or do you not believe in equality when it comes to speech?

What make you think there is equality in speech. There certainly isn't here.

For any impressionable young people who might be reading along:

Calling fascists "deplorable", and calling the victims of fascist terrorism "deplorable", are not morally equivalent.

Republicans were not called deplorable, only a certain, deplorable subset were and, then, not because they are Republican but because they embrace misogyny, racism, bigotry and homophobia. If you embrace these attitudes, then you probably think it is fine and dandy to be that way.

Those accusations you listed are merely accusations that are used to fuel anti-conservative propaganda.

No, really, they aren't.

Did that list mention anything about conservative policies like lower taxes and few regulations?
Did it mention lower/higher tariffs? (Not sure if you guys are free traders or protectionist anymore.)
Did it mention the size of the defense budget?
Did it mention the size of the social safety net?

(The answer to all of those questions is: No, it did not.)

It was a list about hating certain groups of people because of who they were (female, non-white, gay, trans).

Not all conservatives are MAGA Republicans. The late Michael Gerson was a deeply committed Evangelical Christian and a speechwriter for George W. Bush, who nontheless denounced the MAGA movement and Trump.
