Attorney General Merrick Garland plans to announce Friday that he has appointed a special counsel to oversee investigations into the retention of national defense information at former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort and key aspects of the criminal investigation into January 6, 2021, according to a senior Justice Department official.

Well, that should end all complaining about the political nature of these investigations!

It will be delayed and stretch into the 2024 campaign year which will protect Trump from an indictment.

I know that is what Trump wants, but the DOJ has so much evidence now that whoever the special counsel is will not be starting for ground zero. And they may decide to indite Trump and override the DOJ caution.

Anyway, I don't think that will stop the state level cases. Those are moving ahead still.

...I just listened to AG Garland on CSPAN.....he stated he was appointing a Special Prosecutor, Jack Smith, due in part to the possibility that both Trump and Biden are running for office in 2024....
Two areas of focus are in scope:
1) Obstruction of the transfer of power on Jan 6th
2) Handling of classified documents

“Based on recent developments, including the former president’s announcement that he is a candidate for president in the next election, and the sitting president’s stated intention to be a candidate as well, I have concluded that it is in the public interest to appoint a special counsel,”

The USA Right think the FBI and CIA are Biden's libs doing his beck and call. They think Google and YouTube and Instagram are under Biden and Liberal control.
They think LiZ Cheney and Adam Kinzinger are under Biden and Liberal Control.
Heck they probably think Mike Pence is in league with Biden and the Liberals.

Most non right leaning people think John Duram is a political hack working to appease the Right.
When Mueller was investigating collaboration between Trump Campaign members and the Russians to interfere in the 2016 election, the people on the USA Right considered this a witch hunt, and hated Mueller and considered him as working for the liberals.

He did do a decent job given the constraints that were on him.

It is unfortunate that he didn't investigate Donald Trump at all, and unfortunate that he refused to make a determination into Trump's own actions of obstruction.

The vast majority of cases he took to the courts he won.

It is chalk and cheese to contrast the Duram investigation and indictments with the Meuller investigation and indictments.

The constraints were that he wasn't allowed to investigate Donald Trump and he wasn't allowed to indict Donald Trump and as such he wasn't allowed to accuse Donald Trump of any legal wrong doing.

BTW, The Duram investigation cost more, has gone on for far longer, and has failed in court and has no significant wins.

Every bit of it fell apart and there was no treason - no collusion - no working with Russia - like the election denier Hillary who paid 12,000,000 to a law firm using a former Russian operative to write an unsubstantiated dossier.

And people are still defending it.

Seven calls for impeachment in four years including one before he was sworn in - 300 investigations and inquiries in congress - an additional 600 plus investigations, inquiries from various agencies. Not one charge - not one guilty - nothing.

2 completely partisan impeachments in the House.

It amazes me that people hold onto this like grimm death.

end all? The fact a left leaning site CNN was posted. Other sites didn't all say the same things. What gets me here is we all seen how the DOJ FBI have messed up in a huge way. They have both lied.. and the left is blindly again hoping praying this time.. this is it.. this time Trump will do down. No again we don't know the law that is also the constitution. The timing of what they did and not doing 1 1/2 months earily matter. Being there talking for months and yes sorry saw everything.. on and on. Lol so a "special counsel" does not mean anything. The investigation was started by the FBI and continued by the Special Council requested by the Republican acting AG.
It was never an investigation into Donald Trump. It was only an investigation into non Donald Trump members of the Trump presidential campaign. It investigated many instances of campaign members discussing and sharing information with Russians.

Eight have pleaded guilty to or been convicted of felonies, including five Trump associates and campaign officials.

There were many other indictments, but as the Russians who were charged have largely decided not to set foot in the US, any legal outcome is questionable.
