  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

    Origin of Life

The mechanisms within life are the same chemical processes as outside life. Plants turning air, lifeless nutrients and sunlight into more life are complicated chemical reactions. There's no miraculous spark missing from our understanding. The exact pathway is mysterious and may never be known...

How is it that spiral galaxies don't spiral?

Inference from incomplete evidence is different from guesswork.

How is it that spiral galaxies don't spiral?

Obviously we can't see all the details, because part of the galaxy is in the way of our view... but despite its size the galaxy isn't particularly dense and its made up of very bright objects. We can see a whole lot and infer more... we also have the ability to compare it to other galaxies we...

How is it that spiral galaxies don't spiral?

But we are talking about the effects... measurable, observable and even predictable effects.

How is it that spiral galaxies don't spiral?

Why would gravity only work laterally into rings? Also the laws of physics are a completely separate issue to atheism... for goodness, sake, the original theory of the Big Bang came from a priest. (The Big Bang was often put forward as a justification for creation and theism, because it...

How is it that spiral galaxies don't spiral?

No one is making this claim. The sprial arms are clearly very stable structures. It's been modeled on the observable laws of physics. The micro scaled demonstrations of whirlpools and such demonstrate that a spiral pattern is an emergent structure rather than everything falling straight into...

How is it that spiral galaxies don't spiral?

    Spiral shape, not spiral motion.

How is it that spiral galaxies don't spiral?

It's a spiral shape, that doesn't mean all the stars that make up the spiral arms are spiraling down to Sagittarius A*, the supermassive black hole at the heart of the galaxy. Here's an example: This is clearly a spiral shape, but the material that makes up the thingie isn't spiraling down to...

There is only 2 options, Life formed because of God, or by random chance from non-living matter

The point is that it is an analogy for a fully developed life form analogous to modern simple life developing from non living chemistry in a purely random collection of reactions. Given that this isn't being presented as a model for abiogenesis that makes using the analogy as "evidence" a...

There is only 2 options, Life formed because of God, or by random chance from non-living matter

You have mistaken what the argument says and how it works. The model is not the light sensitive cell just appearing where an eye needs to be, it's about a variation on existing structures and selection encouraging useful variations. If an organism develops some light sensitive cells that can...

If the brain is necessary to have a vision

Personally I think calling DI a psuedoscience orginisation is giving them too much credit. Their psuedoscience is in service to political and religious propaganda rather than an honest desire to investigate dualism or intelligent design from a neutral or secular perspective.

If the brain is necessary to have a vision

Doesn't look like this is accurate. His brain was compressed not missing.

If the brain is necessary to have a vision

Don't they have a brain with most of the working parts, just smushed into a an unusually small area of the skull?

Human/chimp genomic similarity drops to ~85%: for real this time?

The problem with cherry picking methods of comparison to drop the similarity of chimps and humans to 85% is that the same method make gorrillas and other gorillas less related still. This means the comparison clearly isn't useful as a demonstration of separate lineage.

    Origin of Life

Some very important content you snipped from my quote... it's almost like it invalidates your entire analogy.
