Egalitarian resources to understand New Testament passages

Often those discussions are part of commentaries on Biblical books that are not just focussed on gender issues, but here's a list of titles you might like to check out: The Ministry of Women in the New Testament: Reclaiming the Biblical Vision for Church Leadership (Dorothy Lee) Holding Up Half...

Anyone up for a chat thread?

Part of the problem in Australia is that everywhere is ridiculously far away. We've been talking for a while about eventually taking my long service leave and exploring the eastern end of the Mediterranean (Cyprus, Greek islands, Turkey, Egypt, sort of thing), but whether or not we ever...

Going there it was Melbourne-Sydney (about an hour and a half), then Sydney-Honolulu, (about nine and a half hours). That was the really rough stretch, not least because we got to Honolulu about 9am local time. Coming back it was Honolulu-Auckland (about nine hours), then Auckland-Melbourne...

Egalitarian resources to understand New Testament passages

Mike Bird's YouTube channel has some great videos. He's mostly a scholar of the early church, but he also tackles the theology of gender. This is a good one of his to watch first: There are so many books it's almost hard to know where to start. Is there a particular angle that interests you...

That's the bit to hold onto, out of that story! When I did CPE, (in my last year before ordination), there was a Zen monk in the group. Through a convoluted set of circumstances, he was the only Zen monk in our city, so without a community. We became very good friends, and when I was a curate...

Why are female clergy cheering for a bishop who doesn’t believe in female priests?

A bishop isn't obliged to ordain anyone, and can refuse without having to give a reason. And Anglicans are a mixed lot, even in England. Not all of us are liberal or even "relatively liberal."

So trump has just slapped tariffs on an island with zero human population, only penguins.

I can perhaps restate that as, to much of the rest of the world, as reflected in what I am reading, listening to, and discussing with others in various settings. It's not just me, although I'm willing to concede that it's also not everyone.

It might seem like nothing to you, but to much of the rest of the world, the current American administration, doing things like this, looks both incompetent and unstable. And that's quite a concerning combination.

Oh, I've done it this week. There are two elderly ladies - sisters-in-law with the same surname - who both have connections in the parish, despite neither worshipping here in recent years. I got a phone call early Tuesday morning (like, I was still in my pyjamas and clearly hadn't had enough...

That's a matter of diocesan policy, and would vary greatly. In most dioceses, more wealthy parishes would pay a higher proportion, and struggling parishes would pay less, or perhaps even receive support. It also depends on how big a diocese is (as in, how many parishes); how wealthy in terms...

I have three churches, and two of them are quite old (in Australian terms). The more recent is about fifty years old. But in Australia, even fifty years ago, I think air conditioning was seen as something of a luxury. (In fact, I don't think any church I've worked in has had air...

We're coming into pleasant autumn weather here after a long, baking summer. None of my churches have cooling, so it's a relief not to feel like the vestments are my own personal sauna.
