  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Discussion Andronicus and Junias Apostles.

Most of the arguments I have heard that there can only be 13 Apostles comes from cessationists, trying to end elements of the Bible to whittle away at callings and gifts. If they can start casting doubt on the ongoing validity of one thing in scripture they can cast doubt on anything else. That...

    Discussion Andronicus and Junias Apostles.

So, biblically we know that there were more apostles than "the 13." I don't see any room to biblically dispute that. But what does cessation have to do with the Bible?

    "Revival"

I'm not so sure it will be confined to an age group. Yes, there's already a revival underway. It's mostly quiet and humble. Ashland Kentucky a few years ago was a bubbling over. It's still going on worldwide, almost silently. Charlie Kirk is a winnowing. The chaff is blowing itself away and the...

Hebrews 10:25 - Quietly Quitting Church?

Can you find a few believing friends to meet with regularly? My church has a form of building, (it's a storefront in a college town), but we aren't meeting there right now. We've been meeting at the pastor's house on Sundays. It let's us all sit in a circle and have a bible conversation. It's...

    Blasphemy against holyspirit

I believe the Bible is for what it says it is. II Timothy 3:16 (NKJV) All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, The Bible itself never claims to be the only word from God, and in fact, the very...

    Blasphemy against holyspirit

If you believe scripture, you will believe the places that it tells us to follow God. How do you follow a God who isn't leading? The answer is you don't, and that's the exact point of your dogma. You get to feel like you're a follower of God without having to actually follow Him. How do you draw...

    Blasphemy against holyspirit

I think we have a lot of agreement, but some disagreement. I may not have communicated well. I do think that in the case of blaspheming the Holy Spirit there is a line to cross between thinking and speaking.

    Blasphemy against holyspirit

I absolutely believe in listening to the Holy Spirit, but when we think we hear something contrary to scripture we misheard. Thinking is not blaspheming. By definition blaspheming is something communicated. Unless you can insert your thoughts into someone else's, it's not blasphemy. If a thought...

does anyone know anything about Teresa Seputis (Godspeak Int'l)?

I'm glad for you that it's a simple distinction, but that's not always the case for all of us. Some of us have to learn to listen to how God speaks to us, and some of us have a lot of noise in our heads and hearts. I recently had a conversation with a friend about computers and he and I can...

Discussion My Dad has come to doubt the validity of the gift of tongues and may become a cessationist. Here are some of his searches... help wanted.

The god of cessation is a god who can be controlled by man. The God of the bible cannot be controlled by man, and just might ask us to embarrass ourselves or do some other thing that we may find unpleasant.

The correct response to some person or people being poor examples of some standard of Christianity is to abandon the teachings of the Bible? That seems to me to be the worst possible response.

Discussion My Dad has come to doubt the validity of the gift of tongues and may become a cessationist. Here are some of his searches... help wanted.

I read those articles and the best of them are saying that scripture means the opposite of what it actually says, which is what cessationists believe. No cessationist believes scripture. The most scriptural sounding argument, but it's not at all scriptural, is forcing the presumptions that...

    Blasphemy against holyspirit

Blasphemy is not what you believe, it's what you proclaim. The Pharisees publicly called the Spirit in Jesus a demon, (therefore publicly proclaiming the Holy Spirit to be a demon, and committing blasphemy concerning the Holy Spirit), and then Jesus taught that blaspheming the Holy Spirit would...

    Blasphemy against holyspirit

Why can't blaspheming the Holy Spirit be what it clearly is, like the Bible says it is, you know, blaspheming the Holy Spirit? The Pharisees insulted the Holy Spirit by calling Him a demon and because the Pharisees did that, Jesus states that blaspheming the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. The...

Discussion My Dad has come to doubt the validity of the gift of tongues and may become a cessationist. Here are some of his searches... help wanted.

You don't become a cessationist by studying the Bible. You become a cessationist by believing man instead of the Bible. I think the best thing you could do is pray, and if the Spirit gives you anything, tell him that. The problem is that the cessationists have centuries of practice at arguing...
