  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The USA's 250th birthday to be celebrated with Octagon UFC/MMA fight, possibly on the White House South Lawn

They should have a wholesome fun bike race instead. Donald even has experience with that.

No. The numerous concerts for various guests and events dont count. They obviously arent big gaudy spectacles. Yes this is a matter of taste. And Im right about it.

Theres nothing "obscene" about an MMA fight. I just dont want the White House becoming grounds for a bread and circuses style spectacle.

Judge' house burns down after she rules against Trump

Well if youre evil and an enemy of the state, what do you expect? That said, it was still probably an accident that only looked like justice.

Ezra Klein: Charlie Kirk was practicing politics the right way

Because there always loads of other conditions available besides "are these views mainstream or fringe?" I mean, mainly, theres the actual content of the views. Why remove that from consideration? it seems absurd frankly. Having the content of the views, you can look deeper than their...

Ezra Klein: Charlie Kirk was practicing politics the right way

Because the "real" question has a fake restriction: ceteris paribus. That Latin bit is not the situation at hand. We do have better tools. If something severely diminished my capacity for observation, reason, empathy, etc - if I was a moron (or just understandably lazy) - then yeah it might...

Ezra Klein: Charlie Kirk was practicing politics the right way

Not on the basis of popularity. Yes on the basis of passing tests against reality. Yes. I do reject that. Popularity is the wrong test for a proposition, even tho theres a correlation with correctness. Testing against reality otoh is the right test, and its available, and it reduces false...

    Morality without Absolute Morality

I didnt say that. I said an empirically derived description of people employing consensus. Thats what Im providing: the description of people doing this.* *Except its not like total 100% consensus. Its just what works such that most people feel they can enjoy a decent life and the society...

    Morality without Absolute Morality

You are misusing "bandwagon fallacy". Thats a logical fallacy sometimes deployed in discussion. But an empirically derived description of people using consensus to determine what they think is correct is not a bandwagon fallacy. It is in fact a correct description if it matches how people are...

Ezra Klein: Charlie Kirk was practicing politics the right way

Thats right. Popularity is not the test for correctness, even tho it maps to reality better than fringe views, more often than not. I dont hold that. But I judge likelihood of correctness based on congruence with reality, not popularity. Yes theres a comfortable degree of correlation to...

Id prefer to hear your words so if I disagree we can be clear about exactly where the contention is. You can do it, Mr Loompa!

    Morality without Absolute Morality

I could not put it that way as it would set even a lot of plant agriculture off limits. But I am personally sympathetic to some recognition of the "personhood" of other beings tho, even if its not the same quality as human personhood. I think this is a correct way to view the world, tho for...

Ezra Klein: Charlie Kirk was practicing politics the right way

Did I say every position deserves equal respect? I thought I was clear multiple times here that opinions deserve respect proportional to their congruence with reality (and Id add: good reasoning). That definitely doesnt entitle every opinion to equal respect. This often cuts against extreme...

    Morality without Absolute Morality

I disagree with that characterization. The real world conditions we inherit, both of human nature and of the world we live in, are not subjective. Our moral sense has to conform to those to persist. Thats not a matter for opinion. Deviations (like what we saw with state-Marxism for example)...

    Morality without Absolute Morality

I find all the terms potentially misleading. I call my position "objective" morality because I think its originates in objectively knowable facts about the human species and the world around us. Other people say that morality commanded from God is "objective morality". I find that misleading...
