And thus begins yet again the strange TDS wherein everyone on the left hangs on the most insignificant statements that Trump makes
It's weird that there's objection to actually listening to what the guy says about his economic policies. That approach kinda admits what we've know all along about his rhetoric, though. Does raise the question of why people would knowingly vote for the guy if it isn't his economic policies, though.

At this point I have to wonder about the obsession of Trump and his supporters with "day one".
Simplistic answers for complex problems to feed a view that the experts are wrong ... because the experts disagree with our feelings.

President-elect Trump said it will be “very hard” to lower grocery prices now that they have risen, but he predicted they will come down.

In a speech in August in North Carolina, Trump told voters, “From the day I take the oath of office, we will rapidly drive prices down and make America affordable again.”

He's a liar master manipulator. He's always knew he couldn't "rapidly drive prices down," but the he also knew the hoi polloi would eat it up.

What politician is not a liar.

Importantly, this one is. And why did people vote for him if not based on his promises, specifically his promises to improve the economy? Now his supporters are going to accept the idea that the economy needs to get worse in order to get better. His tarrif agenda, if carried out, will be a disaster, and companies will pass the buck down to consumers. But excuses will abound. We already know how this goes.

Trump's tarrifs didn't help last time, and they won't magically help this time.

“When I win, I will immediately bring prices down, starting on day one,”

Oh, but it will be "very hard".

Did those of you voted for Trump really believe he can lower the price of eggs on day 1? Or day 90? Or day 720?

I thought Trump is supposed to be different, that he "tells it how he sees it", that he doesn't act like a typical politician?

Some politicians are better than others, but you can't justify him on that account.

Why not critique his lies? Why are folks on the right so disingenuous at this point as to not call out the one they elected when he back peddles on his word? That makes no sense. If he says he's going to make sure things will be economically better, then his supporters should be adamant he do so instead of settling and lumping him in with all other liars. Of course, he is a prolific liar, but your response makes no sense. His supporters should be howling at the thought he might not succeed on this point. Why elect him if he's not going to do what he said?

Shame on us for giving any credence to campaign promises.
Certainly anyone who was not skeptical of his claim to reverse inflation and bring prices down deserves shame.

That is the pattern, having a democratic administration come and clean up the messes left by GOP presidents.
Please tell us of the messes that Democrats "cleaned up"

As I quoted another reporter after the Harris debate: "It's a boxing match on the Titanic". No matter who wins, the American people will somehow lose. Trump may slow us down from the iceberg; with Harris it would be full speed ahead. Either way, we'll make impact.

Inflation was caused largely by the spending-like-a-drunken-sailor stimulus that Trump and Biden had to do to keep the country afloat through the pandemic. The hard part is to stick the landing after cutting off the money.

America’s economy just achieved the rare feat of a soft landing

“I think we should declare a soft landing now,” said James Bullard, former president of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, in an interview with CNN earlier this month.

He’s one of several economists and officials who told CNN the economy has finally pulled off that scenario, in which inflation is tamed without a recession — an exceptionally rare achievement.

US growth outpaces that of other advanced economies

The International Monetary Fund expects US GDP to expand at an annualized 2.5% rate in the fourth quarter, higher than the IMF’s July forecast. That would be the strongest among the Group of Seven major advanced economies.

It's a bit of an odd reaction.
But it's also weird that they are aware of his idiosyncratic misanthropic eccentricities and will grudgingly say they don't like it...until he behaves that way and then they excuse it.

I agree. He should simply be ignored since most of what he says is either nonsensical or false.

I do not try to justify any political liar. At least i know i am being lied to and not by just one party or just at the top of government. The lie is the main tool in the politicians tool belt.

Is there one who does care. I know of ones who do not want their lies exposed, so they lie more to cover them up.

Well, this thread is about this particular liar who said he would lower food prices and is now backtracking. It appeared like you were making excuses for him, but maybe you were just making a general observation about politicians. I don't know. What I do know is this particular dude is a horrible liar with horrible ideas. Oh well, the masses chose him and now we get to live with it.
