PROVERBS 3:7-8 (NKJV, bold mine) 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil. 8 It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones. | LUKE 1:41,44 (NKJV) 41 And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit; 44 For indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. & JOHN 3:3,7 (NKJV) 3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ |
Re: “flesh”. Some English translations use “navel” (KJV). This is quite literal, for the Strong’s Lexicon in Biblehub.com’s Interlinear says that the Hebrew meaning is “the umbilical cord”. This cord, of course, feeds nutrients from the expecting mother to the unborn child. This rendering in Proverbs 3:8 is a picture of the complete and blessed dependence that a each child of God has available to them. | The flow of the Holy Spirit into the life of a believer has the nutrients of eternal life that are imparted to the new creations of God. The life of John the Baptist is a unique picture of this. The Holy Spirit life flowed to him as surely as the blood of his mother Elizabeth flowed into him through her umbilical cord. Once born, John was able to continue to walk in both human strength and through the divine power of the indwelling Holy Spirit. Likewise, when we are “born again”. The unction of the Holy Spirit leads us into a new life, initially fed by “the umbilical cord” of God’s power. From that point, we are “born” into eternal life. |
