“They are not walking by faith”. The phrase, lately a common catch-all to describe non-conformity to certain teachings about “prosperity”, the exercise of specific spiritual gifts, “divine health”—even political activism of a given slant, is cast about with staggering ease.
The mindset has spread to the point that some highly recognized leaders admit that they avoid those who are not of like mind. Is this the kind of God-love (agape) that encompasses our hope and our faith, along with the fruits of the Spirit, in the Spirit-energized life of the Church?
“Beloved, let us love one another…” (1 John 4:7-8 KJV). No one is exempt from this exhortation. Such love is reciprocal in that not only is it projected toward others, it is incomplete if it does not make room for accepting a response—in short, fellowship.
