  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Pentecost 2023

Pentecost/Shavuot 2026 begins at sundown on Thursday May 21, 2026 & concludes at nightfall on Saturday, May 23, 2026. (Hebrew calendar, Sivan 6th-7th)

1st Pentecost (Old Covenant)
At the first Pentecost, Moses received the Torah/Commandments at Mount Sinai & the Nation of Israel was born (Ex. 19:1–22).

1st Post‑Resurrection Pentecost (New Covenant)
At the 1st Pentecost after Christ's resurrection, Jesus baptized (Matt 3:11 & Acts 2:4) believers with/in/by His salvation sealing (2 Cor 1:22, 5:5, Eph 1:13–14, 4:30, 2 Tim 1:14) Forever (Jn 14:16) indwelling Holy Spirit & the New Testament/Christian Church was born.

Names: Pentecost (Greek) Shavuot (Hebrew) Festival of Harvest (Ex 23:16), Festival of Weeks (Ex 34:22, Lev 23:15-22, Deut 16:16, 2 Chron 8:13, Num 28:26)

The 2 Wave Loaves - Pentecost’s Central Symbol
Pentecost is the only feast where God commands 2 loaves of leavened bread to be waved before Him (Lev. 23:17). Every other grain offering had to be unleavened, making this offering unique & deeply symbolic.

What the Two Loaves Represent
2 distinct groups God brings into one harvest. Both containing leaven (sin). Both accepted because they are presented by the priest, not because they are perfect.

The 2 loaves foreshadow the New Covenant people of God:
OT Israel (pre‑Spirit, covenant people) > NT Jew & Gentile (Spirit‑filled commonwealth, Eph. 2:11–22)

Both groups are sinful (leavened), yet both are accepted when waved by the High Priest, ultimately fulfilled in Christ.

Pentecost is the wheat harvest & the 2 loaves are the firstfruits of the Spirit‑born community, pointing directly to Acts 2 & ultimately to the future catching-up resurrection harvest of 1 Thess. 4:16–17.

The New Covenant Begins:
Acts 2:
1 (A) When the day of Pentecost was fully come
4 (A) they were all filled with the Holy Spirit
(NOTE: Right here the new covenant begins: Jesus baptized (Matt 3:11, Jn 1:33, Acts 2:4, Rom 8:9-11) believers with His salvation sealing. forever indwelling Holy Spirit.

When we place our faith in Christ's sin‑atoning death (payment made), burial (proof of death) & resurrection (the Father's receipt that the payment was accepted. (1 Cor. 15:1–4, Rom 10:9, Eph 1:13), the New Covenant is applied to us through spiritual sealing (2 Cor 1:22, 5:5; Eph 1:13–14, 4:30, 2 Tim. 1:14).

Only Christ can baptize the believer with His forever indwelling, salvation sealing Holy Spirit (Matt. 3:11; Acts 1:5; 2:4; 2:38; 4:31; John 3:5; 1 Pet. 3:21; 1 Cor. 6:19; 12:13; Rom. 8:9–11).

Early Pentecost traditions:

BOOK OF RUTH
For 3500 yrs the Book of Ruth has been read every Pentecost. The story of Boaz a Kinsman Redeemer. Is a shadow of Christ & his Bride the Church. Boaz a wealthy landowner of Judah, takes Ruth, a Gentile, for his wife.

Ruth 3:9 And he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmaid: "spread therefore thy skirt over thine handmaid" for thou art a near kinsman.
(NOTE: Spread therefore thy skirt (TALLIT) over thine hand maid: This verse is a marriage proposal. When a Jewish man married a woman, he threw the end of his skirt (TALITH) over her head, covering her, to signify that she was now under his covering/protection. When we say yes to Christ, He seals us with his Holy Spirit > His covering & protection)

Rabbinic traditions:

Decorating the Bride
A long held tradition involves staying awake all night studying Scripture (tikkun), symbolically "decorating the bride." Jews believed God would briefly open the heavens & send a blessing.

The Church is the Bride of Christ & this is exactly what the 120 did in Acts 1–2. They remained together through the night in prayer & expectation & at daybreak (when the day of Pentecost was fully come) heaven literally opened & the Holy Spirit descended. The tradition anticipated a blessing & the believing Jews the fulfillment.

The Lord still has plenty of blessing He's waiting to rain down. Like 1 Thess 4:16, Christ coming for His Bride & maybe (I pray) this Pentecost an even GREATER blessing awaits:
The Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel & with the trump of God & so shall we ever be with the Lord (1 Thes 4:16–17).

FESTIVAL WITHOUT A DATE
Pentecost was also referred to as "the festival without a date." Originally this Feast didn’t have a fixed date. It was calculated by the new moon, when crops began to bloom prior to Passover & a seven week countdown. With leap months the actual calendar day/date was quite flexible. After the destruction of the Temple the 6th of Sivan became a fixed date. They simply count 50 days after (Nisan 16) firstfruits.

JUDGING THE FRUIT OF TREES:
Jewish tradition holds that God judges the fruit of trees at Pentecost. Paul echoes this with the Judgment Seat (Bema) of Christ (2 Cor 5:10). Believers' works are judged for reward & not for sin. Christ paid for all sin (Col 1:14 & Rom. 4:7).

Those who reject God's grace (Jesus Christ) will face the White Throne Judgment, where every requirement of the Law must be answered, ending in eternal separation (2 Thess. 1:9)..

OT Physical food harvest feasts foreshadow NT Spiritual soul resurrection harvests.

Passover — Barley Harvest
OT: Barley firstfruits and wave offering
NT: Christ the Firstfruits (1 Cor. 15:20)
Matt. 27:52–53, many witnessed resurrected saints after Christ rose, At minimum the 144,000 -Possibly all in Abraham’s Bosom

Pentecost — Wheat Harvest
OT: Wheat harvest and two leavened loaves
NT: A spiritual resurrection/soul harvest is coming on a future Pentecost (1 Thes 4:16–17) Lord, come quickly!

Could the Body of Christ/Church be "HARVESTED" this Pentecost? I pray yes!
