  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Every church movement, every local church, has their challenges. Left to purely human reasoning, there are things that can feel restricting, too slow to bloom to fruit—and dare we say it (?), too slow to conform to our expectations...however close our impatient convictions might accurately...

Too often, a woeful picture is drawn that depicts the followers of Messiah Jesus as fearful and dejected on that Pentecost day, before the Holy Spirit fell on them, as had been prophesied by Joel. The biblical narrative shows a different demeanor, one of joy—with a hope that was fulfilled...

(all Scriptures cited in my comments and the table below are from the NIV-1984. The bold is mine) From the flow of the Scriptures in the table below, going from the left to right columns, we get a clear picture of how our heavenly Father communicated to Israel and the world about what it means...

What the serpent (Satan) said to Eve in the Garden of Eden: 2 The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, 'You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.' " 4 "You will...
Zeal for the Word, Our souls bought first, So that when pages turn, bright margins appear. There, context explains God’s fresh notes of faith. Remembering the Word, How life from it burns, Shows roads from the past, For each pilgrim’s progress.* Such templates make knees To touch floors...
When pondering the enslavement of Joseph and his rise to power in Egypt, I find my myself sympathetic to Potiphar--his being deceived by his wife and his unwitting punishment of Joseph. In what follows, I imagine Potiphar's wife coming to grips with her connivances as she attempts to mollify...
Ephesians 3:20-21 (NKJV-bold mine) 20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. James 4:31 (NKJV-bold mine) 3 You ask...
John 2:1-11 describes Jesus' first miracle, "The Wedding at Cana". Below, a musing about verses 3-5 (NKJV, bold is mine) 3 And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” 4 Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not...
There are some interesting contrasts and parallels between the Gospel narrative concerning John the Baptizer (John 1) and the Pharisee named Nicodemus (John 3). All Scripture quotes are from the NASB-1995. Apostle John’s description of John the Baptist, Jesus, and the spiritual battle...
It is true that “we love him [God] because he first loved us” (1 John 4:19). Consequently, the children of God have the privilege of praying intimately to Him. That is, we can actually talk to Him. Regarding His initiative to communicate with us and His longing for us to know Him, The Bible...
I prayed today, in earthbound syllables, unlike the angelic kind, mine miraculous as the upper room languages, for I prayed believing Christ would interpret them right: as for intent, as for need, although bundled with emotions wrapped around truths He has shown us. Lord, how encouraging! You...
Lord, your mercies are new every morning. I must therefore continue to discover anew, for the best orientation of my heart toward You, how this is so. I mustn’t take for granted what You grant. Proven before, I must admit that your mercies many times feel like a new ship aft and fore, in...
The “Reformers” once contended with errant teachings that diluted the Biblical narrative about Jesus being the sole mediator between God and man. There’s a new aberration being presented, that needs to be refuted by the Church, that attempts to take “Cast all your cares upon the Lord” to “Just...
"So heavenly minded you're no earthly good". The phrase sounds wise. Yet, it is not. Consider Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV): 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. To be directed by the...
Do we respect God’s Heaven? We cannot say “Yes” if we flippantly refer to the opposite place, to where those who do not love Him till the end of their lives are consigned for eternity. The latest fad of uttering “Hell” at a whim, most notably by politicians that U.S. conservatives—even...
Matthew 20:30-31,34^ 30 And behold, two blind men sitting by the road, when they heard that Jesus was passing by, cried out, saying, “Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David!” 31 Then the multitude warned them that they should be quiet; but they cried out all the more, saying, “Have mercy on us...
“They are not walking by faith”. The phrase, lately a common catch-all to describe non-conformity to certain teachings about “prosperity”, the exercise of specific spiritual gifts, “divine health”—even political activism of a given slant, is cast about with staggering ease. The mindset has...

The schemes of the enemy of our souls are indeed "devices", among them the sensory seduction that occurs when communications methods are beheld in an uncritical and naive manner. A lackadaisical viewing of these devices opens the mind that is supposed to "take every thought captive" and renders...

Consider Ephesians 2:1. When the described in this verse happens, the inner or spirit man becomes alive in Christ. The curse of the Law is broken, freeing and empowering us to obey Christ. Yet, It is being actively taught by some, “Obey your spirit man.” Rather, we must obey Christ the...
