Disclaimer: It is not our role to determine whether or not somebody is a Christian. We just use our discernment based on the evidence we have found on the internet to come to a likely or best-guess answer. Our answers do not actually determine who is or is not a Christian and it is ultimately between the person and God. Not us.

Swift had always been reserved about her religious and political views but lately, she has been jumping on religious topics and discussions and even expressed her faith and beliefs publicly. For those wondering if Swift Taylor is a Christian, this article will provide answers to clear your doubts on this issue.
Is Taylor Swift Religious?
Taylor Swift was always very private with her religious beliefs and recently began opening up about them. However, she has always been affiliated with Christianity having been born into a Christian religious home. She revealed in a recent interview that she believes in God but does not think she is religious.
Taylor Swift has employed religious imagery in some of her songs. For example, in her 2006 classic “Our Song.” Below are the lyrics:
“Our song is the Slamming screen door
Sneakin’ out late, tapping on your window
When we’re on the phone, and you talk slow
‘Cause it’s late, and your mama don’t know
Our song is the way you laugh
The first date, “Man, I didn’t kiss her, and I should have
And when I got home, ‘fore I said, “Amen”
Asking God if he could play it again”
Does Taylor Swift believe in God?
Taylor Swift does not make so many public comments about her personal beliefs, which explains why there are not enough reports of her publicly expressing her belief in God. Notwithstanding, many reports reveal that Taylor Swift believes in God.
Dvaita reported in 2022 that Taylor Swift affirmed her belief in God but also mentioned that she does not consider herself religious. Since the Grammy-winning artist made her religious beliefs public, she has incorporated these beliefs in some of her songs. For instance, her 2019 song “False God” in the album “Lover” contained some religious elements including the mention of God. The song shows that Taylor believes in the worship of God and one might be lost if a person does not open his/her eyes to faith.
Though the song might not be directly addressing religion, the way the music star embeds religious elements in her lyrics to give it a religious undertone is highly commendable. Below are some lines from “False God”
“They say the road gets hard and you get lost when you’re led by blind faith
Blind faith
But we might just get away with it
Religion’s in your lips
Even if it’s a false god
We’d still worship
We might just get away with it
The altar is my hips
Even if it’s a false god
We’d still worship this love”
Is Taylor Swift a Christian?
The Bible has made several attempts to describe who Christians are and how they should live their lives. A Christian is someone who has put his faith and trust in Jesus Christ and his work. Christians are the largest religious group with over 2 billion followers.
The true meaning of Christianity has been mislaid long ago and society now regards a Christian as someone that goes to church frequently or outwardly fulfills Christian principles and rites. The Bible however describes Christians as followers of Jesus Christ whose heart reflects Jesus Christ and not only fulfilling the outward and materialistic requirement of the faith.
The Holy Bible, the most important source of authority for Christians highlights the characteristics of a true Christian to be;
- Someone that has faith in God (Hebrew 11:6)
- Someone that has received salvation by proclaiming that Jesus is King and relying on the gospel (Romans 10:9 and Ephesians 1:13)
- A person that repents of his/her sins, is baptized and leads a holy lifestyle (Acts 2:38)
- Someone that imitates the lifestyle of Jesus Christ and believes in one God (1st Corinthians 11:1)
- People that worship no other God except the God and supreme being Christendom recognizes (Exodus 20:3)
- Someone that spreads the gospel to others (Mark 16:15, 2nd Timothy 3:15-17)
Taylor Swift was born into a Christian home and identifies as one, but did not make a lot of comments about her faith for over a decade in the music industry. Taylor reportedly sang in churches before she became a famous artist and there are claims that she started visiting churches and performing again recently.
In 2015, she told fans that were inquisitive about her religious beliefs that they should avoid political and religious questions. In her words:
“Just wanted to remind you guys that let’s try to avoid topics and conversations that lean towards political or religious topics. In the end, someone will inevitably get offended and this just isn’t the place for that.”
Taylor later started making her beliefs public. In her 2020 documentary, “Miss Americana” Taylor Swift tries to address some social and political issues. She became emotional while speaking and also reiterated that she is a Christian and some of the acts perpetrated are against her religion. In her words, “I don’t care if they write that! it is a big deal to me. I can’t see another commercial and see [Blackburn] disguising these policies behind the words ‘Tennessee Christian values. Those aren’t Tennessee Christian values. I live in Tennessee. I’m a Christian. That’s not what we stand for.”
Taylor Swift has portrayed her Christian beliefs and has done things that suggest she is a Christian. The music star is well known for her philanthropic efforts and has contributed to many charitable and humanitarian causes and has been able to inspire others through her efforts. She was ranked number one on the Do Something “Gone Good” list.
On the other hand, Taylor Swift has also done things many consider “not good” Christian values. For example, lending a voice to the LGBTQ community through her songs and public comments which is against Christianity. Taylor believes everyone is supposed to be welcomed and accepted into the Christian community irrespective of their sexual orientation, but Christianity preaches against it.
Taylor Swift has affirmed she is a Christian but from our findings, she does not support the entire moral values and structure of the religion. She supports abortion too and stated that the “pro-choice brand of Christianity is the real Christianity.”
Is Taylor Swift Baptized?
Taylor Swift has not publicly mentioned if she is baptized or not but few reports have revealed that the music diva was raised and baptized into the United Methodist Church.
What did Taylor Swift say about Jesus Christ?
Taylor Swift has portrayed her beliefs in Jesus Christ in her comment and through her songs. In her 2012 release, “Holy Ground” the artist referenced Jesus in the lyrics. Here is an excerpt from the song:
“I was reminiscing just the other day
While having coffee all alone, and Lord, it took me away
Back to a first glance feeling on New York time
Back when you fit my poems like a perfect rhyme
Took off faster than a green light, go
Yeah, you skip the conversation when you already know
I left a note on the door with a joke we’d made
And that was the first day”
In 2007, Taylor released a 6-song EP to celebrate Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ. One very interesting song from the EP that adores Jesus Christ is ” Christmas Must Be Something More.” Below is an excerpt from the song:
“You’d see that today holds something special
Something holy, not superficial
So here’s to the birthday boy who saved our lives
It’s something we all try to ignore
And put a wreath up on your door
So here’s something you should know that is for sure. Christmas must be something more”
Conclusion
Taylor Swift has affirmed that she believes in God, Jesus Christ, and some Christian values but does not uphold principles that discriminate against people and go against human rights. She might be a Christian and it’s not in our jurisdiction to declare that she is not because of her practices and contrary beliefs. This is solely between her and the creator.
