Is Green Day a Religious Band?

Religion is the belief in and the adoration of a superhuman power which could be a God or gods. A religious band can be identified by the type of song the band churns out and the lifestyle of band members.
A religious band produces songs that are influenced by the beliefs and practices of a particular religious group. Green Day has been identified as an agnostic band. Band members hold the belief that the existence and nature of a superhuman, God, or gods are unknown to anyone.
Some band members have revealed that they don’t believe in the existence of any type of God and this also reflects in their music lyrics. In an interview with Christian Today and bassist Dirnt, when asked about his beliefs and what he thinks of Jesus Christ of the Christian faith, he stated:
“You know what? I’m an optimistic agnostic. I think the second we die, within a matter of seconds, everybody else arrives, and that’s the party, and you live your hell on earth. I don’t know.
Sounds a little mafioso to me. You know, to each their own. Everyone has the right to believe in whatever they believe in. As I said, I’m an optimist, so I believe in some sort of life after death, I don’t know what kind.”
Dirnt further revealed that his religion is based on his spirituality and not on any God or gods. He stated that his religious beliefs are based on Star Wars, the popular Opera film series created by George Lucas. In his words:
“I hear people say that everybody in the world has heard of Jesus Christ, it makes me want to puke, in all honesty. I’m not gonna base my religion, well, I base my religion on my spirituality, and what goes around comes around. If there is a God or anything like that, there’s nothing I can certainly do about it. I believe we’re all part of the Force. It’s like the Force. There’s Luke, there’s Leia, and there’s us.
All my religious beliefs are based on Star Wars.”
The artist adds that :
“If there is a God, it’s something I can’t even fathom. So, why spend my life trying to understand something that I can’t understand? I just take my morals and my scruples out of whatever I have learned in life and just go with that.”
In a 2010 interview with the band’s frontman Billy and vocal atheist Bill Maher, the artist stated that “religion is a bunch of bullshit.” He has disclosed that he does not believe in any form of organized religion and is agnostic. Other band members have also stated that the band is not religious and they do not believe in any form of organized religion. As such, we do not consider Green Day a religious band.

Will you go with me on Friday night?
If you live with me, I’ll die for you, and this compromise
I hereby solemnly swear to tell the whole truth “
Jesus Christ of Surbubia
“I’m the son of rage and love
The Jesus of Suburbia
The bible of none of the above
On a steady diet of
Soda pop and Ritalin
No one ever died for my sins in hell
As far as I can tell
‘Least the ones I got away with
And there’s nothing wrong with me
This is how I’m supposed to be
In a land of make-believe
That don’t believe in me
Get my television fix
Sitting on my crucifix’
Holiday
“Hear the sound of the falling rain
Coming down like an Armageddon flame (hey!)
The shame is the ones who died without a name
Hear the dogs howling out of key
To a hymn called “Faith and Misery” (hey!)

Can I get another amen? (Amen!)

A gag, a plastic bag on a monument”
