Disturbed is a heavy metal band formed in Chicago in 1994. They have released seven albums, and five of them debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200. The members of the band include David Draiman on vocals, Dan Donegan on guitar, keys, and keyboard, John Moyer on bass, and finally Mike Wengren on drums. Let’s begin!
Is Disturbed a Religious Band?

Dan, Mike, and Steve Kmak were in a band called Brawl along with Erich Awalt before David joined Disturbed. However, before changing the band’s name to Braw, David was mentioned in a DVD called Decade of Disturbed. The original name was going to be Crawl but ended up going with Brawl because another band already used Crawl.
Not long after the band made their demo tape, Erich left. The other three members searched for another singer. David answered the ad the band had posted. Ultimately, he got the job in 1996, and the band changed their name to Disturbed.
David commented on the name saying, “It had been a name I have been contemplating for a band for years. It just seems to symbolize everything we were feeling at the time. The level of conformity that people are forced into was disturbing to us and we were just trying to push the envelope and the name just sorta made sense.
When the band was set, they made 2 three-track demo tapes. Songs included The Game, Down with the Sickness, and Meaning of Life. The second tape included Want, Stupify, and Droppin’ Plates.
The band released their debut album, The Sickness, in 2000 under the label Giant Records. This album put the band on the map and peaked at number 20 on the Billboard 200. They joined Marylin Manson’s European tour in 2002. Steve shattered his ankle and couldn’t make the tour. As a result, Marty O’Brien filled in.
In 2002, Disturbed released their second album entitled Believe. This was the first of five albums that debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200. The first single from that album was called Prayer and had a music video made but was pulled from most stations due to perceived similarities to the 9/11 attacks.
In 2003, they started their own tour called Music as a Weapon II. Bands Chevelle, Tarpool, and Unloco toured with them. Shortly after the tour ended, Steve was let go by the band due to personality differences and was replaced by John Moyer.
The album Ten Thousand Fists was released in 2005 and debuted at number 1 on theBillboard 200. 238,000 copies of that album were sold the week after its release and were certified platinum because 1,000,000 units were shipped. It was also the first of their albums to feature guitar solos
In 2006, a European tour was scheduled but had to be moved back twice due to David having severe acid reflux, which affected his voice. He ended up having surgery for a deviated septum which was successful. As a result of the surgery, he cut back on his drinking while on the road.
In that same year, they went on their Music as a Weapon II tour, which featured the band Flyleaf, Stone Sour, and Nonpoint. However, David notified the band that the second leg of the tour was being canceled so they could work on their fourth album.
Their mascot is named The Guy. Originally, it was just a drawing of a face with a big grin as seen on the back of the album The Sickness. It was then edited with a digital distorting program. After being distorted three times, The Guy became Disturbed’s official mascot. It was later drawn as a full figure by artist David Finch.
I could go through each album and every major event, but what I’ve listed here is enough to let you know that they are a successful band. As far as being a religious band, there’s nothing to indicate this. It is a well-known fact that David Drainman comes from a Jewish background but that heritage is not evident in their music.
What kind of music is Disturbed?
Disturbed is a heavy metal band or at least hard rock. Their music is often described as nu-metal and alternative metal. However, most wouldn’t classify them as die-hard heavy metals.
The band’s influences include Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Pantera, among others. David’s primary influences include Faith No More, specifically singer Mike Patton of that band.
Is Disturbed a Christian Band?

After doing some research, I cannot definitively say they are a Christian band. I will say that their mascot named The Guy leans me toward them not being a Christian band. I don’t know of any Christian band that has a mascot such as that
Disturbed band Christian Songs
There are no Christian songs by this band that I can list here.
Is Disturbed a satanic band?

Just because I don’t view this band as a Christian band doesn’t mean they are satanic. I will say their mascot bothers me a lot, but, again, it doesn’t make them satanic.
Conclusion
I’m not a heavy metal fan, and by the heavy metal songs I’ve actually heard, I can’t understand the lyrics, so there’s no way I can make that determination.
The bottom line is each person has to decide for themselves whether Disturbed is a Christian band. In order to make this decision, you have to know what the Bible says and compare the message of the songs to the message of the Bible. That’s the only way to determine if any band is Christian.
