Colorado organizers fail to gather enough signatures to put anti-abortion measure on the ballot

The group needed to collect 124,238 signatures by the April 18 deadline. Faye Barnhart, co-sponsor of the measure, told CBS News that the group had collected "tens of thousands of signatures," but fell short.

In a press release, the Colorado Life Initiative blamed abortion opponents they deemed "ProLife In Name Only" — even calling them "PLINOs"

['Are the PLINOs in the room with us right now?']

An abortion rights group, Coloradans for Reproductive Freedom, appears to have been more successful in its signature collection efforts. It hopes to put a constitutional amendment enshrining the right to an abortion on the ballot and submitted 230,000 signatures to the secretary of state's office on Thursday. The group's signatures must now be validated by the secretary of state.

Can't say I am surprised given the poll numbers on this issue.

Calling non-hardcore abortion opponents ProLife in Name Only is going to backfire on them.

The overturning of Roe has blown up in their faces at every turn so far.

Agreed. I am a non-hardcore, mild abortion opponent, and would support those who get abortions if both mother and child are at risk (abortion should not be used willy-nilly though). Staunch pro-lifers do not like that, and pro-abortionists don't like that either.

Yes.

it was actually predicted.

but, frankly, planning has never been the pro-life movements long suit.

Unfortunately.

They had decades to formulate something, anything. Then they get what they were screaming for and it’s bad slapstick levels of incompetence.

Ya love to see it.

The problem was they were never really "pro-life". They never showed up for advocate for school funding, increased support of WIC or SNAP, child care, not even to advocate against the death penalty. Not even when asked. The response was always: "We'll work on those later, after we win this right to life".

Gun Control? What does that have to do with regulating access to women's health care? Affordable health care ? What does that have to do with keeping women pregnant?

Yeah, that didn't go over well, it took two election cycles before I, a snot nosed Catholic teen working in the Democratic Party (the Dem's were the anti-abortion party in those days - the GOP was pro abortion rights - Raygun changed all that) realized the the Pro-Lifers were just, no know, anti-abortion.

And....
....you know.....

Fetuses are an easy and somewhat cynical group to represent. They don't ask for anything, don't complain, don't cost the advocates any money, don't call you out for your hypocrisy, and don't show up at your doorstep to at dinner time to ask for your signature on some form you don't want to sign and disappear from your consciousness the moment they are born and begin actually doing the above things.

Now that they've overturned Roe it's all about control. Pro-life is now nakedly pro-control of your personal life.

There's a word for that. I won't use it because I will get into trouble.

So now, they're gonna lose and they're gonna lose big. And then where are we ?

Hanging out in Catholic fourms complaining about how oppressed Catholics are.

Thanks pro-lifers movement.

...nor have "pro-life" politicians stepped up to support family friendly policies....(mandatory maternity leave, child care assistance, etc).

I am a rare guy.

From my description:
Pro-life for every life stage from age 0 to the elderly (except for in cases where both mother and baby will both pass), for cheap renewable energy, for free unbiased news, for a community-based society, against fascism, against Trumpism.

I believe he was referring to your mention of "pro-abortionists", not your description of yourself.

Thank you. It is difficult for me to read between the lines on a forum. :) But yeah, I meant to say pro-choicers, not pro-abortionists.

Sorry, I had underlined the text I was responding to. I'll be more explicit in the future.

Thank you, bro. I didn't check for that. But yeah, the political realm in the US is very turbulent now.
