Is it a good idea to state that God loves all?

I really wish people would post more stuff like this. It makes me want to dive deeper in to this: If they break my statutes and do not keep my commandments, then I will punish their transgression...Nevertheless my lovingkindness I will not utterly take from him. (Psalm 89:31-33) My take is...

In a rare scenario, if a Christian were to be falsely imprisoned and beaten, should they confess to something they didn't do to stop the beating?

Both Abraham and Isaac lied and said their wife was their sister out of fear. Peter also denied knowing Jesus. Their spirits may not be mighty, but seems understandable.

What good have you gotten from Christians forums?

There was a time when I came to the forums and there would be some healthy discussions going back and forth and people were spitting out scripture to back up what they were saying causing me to go and further research. I learned so much then which drove me to sign up. I don’t really see much of...

Is it sinful to use a computer/phone which has played sinful music, has viewed sinful content, etc?

"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." (Proverbs 4:23). I've had to cut just about everything I watch on T.V. It's been tough but I find it getting easier and easier. Some things that you can't control like the music in the marketplace, but you may find that...

Jubilee called for the freeing of slaves but it didn't call for the ending of slavery. If it did, what would be the point of jubilee occurring every 50th year? "slaves originally in the body of Christ"... what do you mean how could believer continue to accept slavery? Apparently, there's a form...

I don't think Clare was trying to change the meaning as much as trying to put it into context. She seemed to be making a point that it was not about slavery, but it's all semantics. Paul was referring to slavery more of as a social status. Not A, but B. This could represent a shift in...

"not as a homosexual, but as a human being" "not (just) as a homosexual, but also as a human being" Seems to be saying the same thing to me - just with a little more emphasis. Just sayin...

I think you make some really good points here. I think people talk a lot of big game about the Bible but when it comes to practical applications - I don't think they have a clue.

Are you implying that by sharing the Gospel that God will transform us in to genuinely doing things out of love rather than us just going through the motions?

I guess I'm getting confused. I said that I didn't know how Paul was invalidating slavery. Then you brought up the letter of Onesimus. Given our shared understanding that this situation involves debt bondage, were you suggesting that Paul was specifically invalidating this form of slavery...

Was Onesimus's slavery to Philemon chattel or debt bondage?

Sorry, I’m not quite understanding how Paul invalidated it. I only see him talking about fair treatment of slaves and fair treatment from their masters as in Ephesians 6:9. Semantics again probably. If you’re referring to Paul invalidating the dark and oppressive side of slavery (attributes of...

I see merit in what both of you guys are saying. While the NT doesn't explicitly condemn slavery, it taught that violence and oppression were wrong. Semantics again. There's a type of slavery that's brutal and oppressive and then there's a more moderate type of slavery that would be more along...

Very true. I was only offering a possible reason why slavery might have been overlooked. Your reasons are more plausible :)

I totally agree with everything that you're saying. Semantics can create a lot of disagreements. Unfortunately contemporary discussions on social justice encompass a broader spectrum of approaches. However, using just "justice" may easily guide the meaning out of context.

Good point. The focus did seem to be more on spiritual transformation. The way that the Romans were, it's probably because He didn't want to be crucified before his time. Seems to me, Him and his disciples had to tread lightly.

This overlooks historical context. "Social justice" emerged because conventional justice systems often failed marginalized groups. It addresses systemic inequalities - racial, economic, gender-based- beyond individual cases. Conventional justice ensures fair rules, but social justice seeks to...

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the foot washing is centered around the concept of "Love thy neighbor". I'm guessing you're saying that evangelism is more important? Is this Lake of Fire different than the one that was prepared for Satan and his angels?
