Fringe extremists supporting Trump don't represent the vast majority of Americans who shall be voting for Donald Trump this November.

The fringe isn't so fringe....according to survey last October:

Disturbingly, support for political violence has increased over the last two years. Today, nearly a quarter of Americans (23%) agree that “because things have gotten so far off track, true American patriots may have to resort to violence in order to save our country,” up from 15% in 2021. PRRI has asked this question in eight separate surveys since March 2021. This is the first time support for political violence has peaked above 20%.

Trump knows he's playing with fire.

He doesn't care.

I am very skeptical of npr and PRRI polling. Also, the question was "may have to resort to violence" instead of the question actually being "would resort to violence."

Well, that's just fine. If the guy next door says if I don't trim my tree he may have to resort to violence then, gee...I've nothing to worry about.

And the polling may be out? Let's say it's out by 50%. So there's only 15 guys wearing camo gear, wearing masks and carrying assault rifles at the next demo instead of 30. Lucky you.

And here's some more polling (from 18 months ago); What Americans Think About Political Violence

'Polls in recent months have gauged Americans’ views on political violence in a few different ways, but they almost always capture some segment of the population that deems political violence acceptable. When asked whether the use of force or violence was justified “to advance an important political objective,” 1 in 5 Americans said it was, at least sometimes, according to a survey from researchers at the University of California, Davis, conducted in May and June. And in a Reuters/Ipsos poll from September, 17 percent of Americans somewhat or strongly agreed that political violence against those they disagreed with was acceptable...'

Read the article here....
Ahh, makes me glad to be in the center. :) Pro-life here, pro-environment, and for the protection of youngsters (such as keeping the trans stuff away from people, having screenings of dangerous individuals before they buy guns, etc).

Remember when politicians used to be closer to the center, back in the 2000s, with Al Gore, Bush, Obama, Romney? Pepperidge farm remembers. Remember when the left wasn't so woke as it is in 2024, and when the right used to have moderate politicians that kept to Christian ideals, and the farther right did not resort to violence? Pepperidge farm remembers.

1980s Pepperidge Farm Remembers commercial (yes, the quality of VCR/VHS was not good, glad to be born in the optical disc era)

The only quibble I have with your post, my brother in Christ, is that I strongly disagree that Obama was a centrist. Perhaps he was on some topics. But on many others I really don't believe that he was.

They aren't. They're targeting people who've been indicted on possible criminal acts. I think it just says something different that you support those people and don't want to admit that.

I think that it says something that you appear to believe the lies of the political party in power that is willing to do almost anything to keep that power.

"When Donald Trump attacks the integrity of judges hearing cases against him, his followers often respond with posts urging that the jurists be beaten, tortured and killed.'

Read the article here....
From the article:

On a recent Tuesday morning, a visibly frustrated Donald Trump sat through a tense hearing in the first-ever criminal trial of a former American president. During a break, he let rip on his social media platform.
New York Justice Juan Merchan, Trump declared on Truth Social, is a “highly conflicted” overseer of a “kangaroo court.” Trump supporters swiftly replied to his post with a blitz of attacks on Merchan. The comments soon turned ugly. Some called for Merchan and other judges hearing cases against Trump to be killed.
“Treason is a hangable offense,” one wrote.
“They should all be executed,” added another.
The April 23 post by Trump and the menacing responses from his followers illustrate the incendiary impact of his angry and incessant broadsides against the judges handling the criminal and civil suits against him. As his presidential campaign intensifies, Trump has baselessly cast the judges and prosecutors in his trials as corrupt puppets of the Biden administration, bent on torpedoing his White House
Trump's actions are disgraceful. It shows he is not fit for the job of president, imo.

With so much evidence of DJT's alleged crimes, it astonishes me that God fearing Christians continue to choose him as their leader. IMHO it is idolatry of the highest order.

...and yesterday before the trial started in New York, his enablers came to re-enforce Trump's message:

NEW YORK — Sen. J.D. Vance, who once recoiled from Donald Trump’s lewd comments about women, was at Trump’s side in court this week as prosecutors rehashed the infamous “Access Hollywood” tape that upended his 2016 campaign.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), an amiable advocate of conservative Christian morals, came to the courthouse the next day to call Trump’s trial a “shame,” a “travesty” and a “partisan witch hunt.” He left without taking questions, including one referencing the allegation that Trump falsified business records to cover up a hush money payment to a porn actress.

...there's another trial this week where the defendent is a US Senator with a D behind his name. I guess the Justice Department missed the memo.

"Back in the 2000s"? was that before or after Newt and Rush? Help my addled elderly mind remember.

We had optical discs in the 1980s too. Music came on 5-inchers, movies came on 12-inchers.
Well, the 2000s was when Bush and Obama were presidents. Yeah, music was released on CDs as early as the mid-1980s, and movies were on LaserDisc back in the late 1970s. One of my favorite anime, Yu Yu Hakusho is on LaserDisc, cos the show was released in 1992. Sadly, I watched it using a computer and a solid-state drive. That isn't as fun.

So, Newt and Rush happened in 2011, and I didn't read much news back then in the early 2010s, as a lot of it was war stuff (Arab spring, Afghanistan, etc). Even so, politics was much tamer back then: Rush Limbaugh signals support for Newt Gingrich

Wish I owned a LaserDisc, even though I do not have a LaserDisc player. I saw this online, and enjoy the cover art, but $25 for something that can not be played in a DVD player is a little much. :)

The Menendez trial a block away from the Trump trial.
