Interesting.
The phrase is certainly self-explanatory.
From what you said though, it seems some argue that the Greek word is not wept, so getting the correct rendering of the Greek word dakruó would be in order.

From what I have read in more than one reference, the correct rendering is weep - with tears.
What reference are you using, and why do you, safe to use the expression here, feel that the word means a "weeping more like a heart broken loss".

This is all in line with the OP, so don't feel it's off topic.

That's true.
An interpretation is needed to explain living water, and the Bible provide one.
It requires looking at a number of scriptures though.
Think of "wept" in the same sense as love. The English word, "wept," means to cry. Context supplies the degree. As I've heard argued, Jesus didn't merely cry, or shed a tear. It was an anguished weeping. I haven't honestly done the word study on it. This is something I heard from someone else. If they were mistaken, then I stand corrected, and the passage requires no further interpretation at all. Although, in truth, it would be self-explanatory if one were reading it in the original language. Any interpretation necessary on our part is due to a language transition.

The thought of someone weeping, will be different in the mind of different people.
I actually thought that I would see images of people bawling with a flood of tears, when I typed "weeping gif" in the web's search engine.
There are some, but what a pleasant surprise I got, when I saw that many images gave these impressions:

I picked those, as this is the impression I get from Jesus wept - with tears.
I guess it's not self-explanatory after all. LOL

People will always put forth their arguments, because of their own personal views. I've heard weird ones.
As we know, that is the reason there is so much confusion in Christianity, as we know it today, and it's also one of the reason many don't think the Bible is the word of God.

The Aramaic Bible in Plain English seems to come closest in explanation.
And the tears of Yeshua were coming.

Interestingly, Luke 19:41 uses another Greek word for weep - klaió.
As Jesus approached Jerusalem and saw the city, He wept over it
This is understood to mean "weep aloud, expressing uncontainable, audible grief ("audible weeping," WP, 2, 88)."

The tears gave way so that might need tweaking a bit.
Tears came from Jesus’ eyes.

It was visible to the crowds.
Then the Jews said, “See how He loved him!” John 11:36

MSG (with surrounding verse(s))

He said, “Where did you put him?” “Master, come and see,” they said. Now Jesus wept.

Could be their mind is blocked. The veil is still in place (and maybe always will be).

They can argue about politics all day and all night long fervently

and not doubt that the congress is congress, the Declaration of Independence is the Declaration of Independence (There is more proof of the Bible than any u.s.a. document !!! , btw) ...

So they who believe the Bible is the Word of God can argue day and night about it with all differing point of views until they become one in Christ Jesus,

and they continue to know for sure, to believe, that the Bible is the Word of God (even unbelievers believe this)

What do you mean by "their mind is blocked"?
Can you give me an example of a person whose mind was blocked, and it became unblocked?

Something like in Scripture where somewhere it is written the natural man cannot understand spiritual things.
The disciples were good and perfect examples. Until God opened their mind to understand, perhaps "breathed on them" , they could not understand.
And the ones in the NT who still have a veil not yet removed so they cannot see - good examples for today also.
