Dear saints,

May the love of our Lord Jesus Christ give us mercy, grace, hope, and protection from all evil.

A few things to remember: when the children of Israel were in the wilderness, God fed them with manna. People weren’t supposed to store more than they needed overnight:

Exodus 16:
18 And when they did mete it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating.
19 And Moses said, Let no man leave of it till the morning.
20 Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them.

The point is there are people who are poor today. Any good thing a man does the same will he receive of the Lord. If you share with others in time of need don’t be surprised if you get help too if stuff goes south.

Hey, here is another part of the Bible that talks about giving to the poor, albeit indirectly in parable form. Let us be the Good Soil, as said in Matthew 13:1-9. By the way, why is this in the preparation forum, instead of the general theology thread? :)

VerseMatthew 13:1-9 (NIV): "That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake. Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore. Then he told them many things in parables, saying: ‘A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. Whoever has ears, let them hear.’"
ExplanationThe Parable of the Four Soils, also known as the Parable of the Sower, is a well-known teachings of Jesus recorded in Matthew 13, Mark 4, and Luke 8. In this parable, Jesus uses the image of a farmer sowing seeds to explain the various ways that the Word of God is received by people. The four types of soil in the parable represent different hearts or receptivity to the Word of God. Here's a brief explanation of each type:
1. The Path: The seeds that fell on the path represent those who hear the Word of God, but the evil one comes and snatches it away.
2. The Rocky Places: The seeds that fell on the rocky places represent those who hear the Word of God with joy but have no root. They believe for a while, but when trials or persecutions come, they fall away.
3. The Thorns: The seeds that fell among the thorns represent those who hear the Word of God but allow the worries and riches of this world to choke it. They may still have some faith, but it is not their top priority.
4. The Good Soil: The seeds that fell on the good soil represent those who hear the Word of God and understand it, and bear fruit.
Societal RelevanceIn our world today, this verse remains true, as each of the four soils represents a different type of Christian.

1. The Path: In modern society, this could be someone who hears about Christianity but is not interested, or someone who is exposed to it but does not allow it to take root in their heart. For example, someone who attends a religious event out of social obligation but does not truly engage with the message.
2. The Rocky Places: In modern society, this may be somebody who is passionate about their faith initially but struggles to maintain it when faced with challenges. For example, a young person who grows up in a Christian family but later rejects their faith when they encounter new ideas or peer pressure.
3. The Thorns: In today’s world, this could represent someone who prioritizes their career, family, or other worldly pursuits over their relationship with God. For example, a successful businessperson who goes to church on Sundays but spends the rest of the week focused on making money and achieving success.
4. The Good Soil: This soil represents a Christian who actively seeks to grow in their faith, learns from the Bible, and puts God first in their life. For example, a person who reads the Bible regularly, prays daily, and actively seeks to apply God's teachings to their life such as helping others who are poor or disenfranchised.
