There is a child that nobody knows
She hides away where nobody goes
She wanted to be loved, safe, protected
Not battered, bruised and neglected
I see her photos, they make me cry
her smiling face, hope yet to die
Would she have smiled if she knew
The pain that lay before as she grew
She wasn’t old before things changed
When smiles of joy were exchanged
For tears of terror and cries of pain
That were enough to drive her insane
and so she ran to a place in her mind
A place she thought no one could find
Even now she still cowers away
Too petrified to come out and play.
I reach out to her, try to reassure
it will be ok to step through the door.
So if you see her, please give her a hug
Hold her tight and safe and snug
She needs to feel that love you see
That little child inside of me.
