This is to avoid totally derailing the communion thread!
Rhamiel asked an interesting question:

what does it mean to be in a covenant with God? I am not familiar with that term having a modern usage, like when I hear about a covenant it is refering to Noah or Abraham

I could go on for hours about this one - have a study on it that runs to about 20 pages so far..
But - would be interested to hear other people's perspective.

Hebrews 9:15
And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance
