Dutch woman, 29, granted euthanasia approval on grounds of mental suffering

I understand what you're saying; as a believer with a European background I'm not against euthanasia per se in all circumstances - and I won't like to force my principles upon someone else. So in that regard on this issue I'm probably a more liberal believer than most in the USA, but I do make a...

Dutch woman, 29, granted euthanasia approval on grounds of mental suffering

Correction; in Belgium teenagers will not obtain permission for euthanasia in case of only mental suffering, but only in case of unbearable physical suffering .. In Belgium just over 3% of all deaths are caused by euthanasia.

Dutch woman, 29, granted euthanasia approval on grounds of mental suffering

As a citizen from that country, it's sad indeed. Pressure to people like that is not applied, but e.g. in nursing homes, elderly sick without recovery prospects who are on tube feeding sometimes are withheld food to not unnecessarily 'lengthen' life ... These practices also occur in Belgium...

The LORD says to my lord

I can hardly believe what you seem to suggest here :) I couldn't disagree more, still fully subscribing to Yeshua's interpretation of course. Without the original Hebrew text of Psalm 110:1 - we're lost. David utters a prophesy and tells us what he sees 'in the spirit' - and that is that he...

The LORD says to my lord

Using the terminology of the cited article, in Psalm 110:1 'YHWH' speaks to 'ADNY' so these are two distinct beings, and Yeshua himself interprets the 'ADNY' as meaning 'lord' with the (Greek) LXX quotation by Yeshua containing the phrase 'my lord' (Matthew 22:44). The current text of Matthew...

The LORD says to my lord

Could you elaborate on that last bit? I don't understand why Yeshua's question in Matthew 22:44 only would make sense when both 'YHWH' and 'Adonai' would be audibly rendered 'Adonai' by the people of that day. The enigma was how the Messiah could be both David's son and his lord, the presence of...

The LORD says to my lord

I'm aware of the fact texts have a history and may show 'development' / adjustments / etc. based on theological priorities. And indeed, Sola Scripture is an illusion as soon as one realises that the interpretation of certain words may depend on extra-biblical literature and analysis. But I...

The LORD says to my lord

Thanks, forgive me for not being smarter :-) but what are you trying to say?

The LORD says to my lord

I don't claim Matthew 22:44 was badly translated; I just put forward the fact that our current text of Matthew is only a translation of the Hebrew/Aramaic original. We know that for sure. Many New Covenant/NT books use LXX quotations, but many also draw from the Hebrew original. The fact that...

The LORD says to my lord

How do you know the Hebrew text at Yeshua's time didn't have the words 'YHWH' and 'Adoni' (my lord) in Psalm 110:1? On what do you base the assumption that the Hebrew text at that time would contain something along the lines of 'the lord said to my lord' ? The quote from Yeshua in Matthew...

The LORD says to my lord

Probably Yeshua could read Hebrew (as He read from the scrolls in the synagogue), but in daily life He probably spoke Aramaic as that was the daily language among the people in Israel at that time (the Gospels contain several Aramaic phrases by Yeshua), and I think it's unlikely He mastered...

The LORD says to my lord

Huh? :) Psalm 110 makes a very sharp distinction between YHWH and David's lord/adon/kyrios = the Messiah, that's all very fascinating and valuable information, and based on John 1:1c ('god is the word') we know about Yeshua's divinity, but Psalm 110 itself says nothing about Yeshua being God...

Baptists (and others)-- Wives submit to husbands? Wives and husbands equal partners?

In egalitarian theological circles the concept of 'headship' is interpreted as meaning 'to be the source or support of' instead of having authority; their arguments couldn't convince me - so I'm sticking with the traditional interpretation. Christ is the absolute ruler of His Church - a loving...

Baptists (and others)-- Wives submit to husbands? Wives and husbands equal partners?

That's exactly my point. In Ephesians 5:22-24 Paul is addressing the women exhorting them how to behave, but when this passage is discussed in sermons in 9 out of 10 times it is turned into a lecture addressing men how not to behave simply because it has become politically incorrect to admonish...

Is it wrong for a Dad to be a stay-at-home dad and have his wife work ?

Maybe not wrong or sinful, but far from optimal; it's role reversal on both sides and very atypical. Maybe for some couples it could work but I'd never recommend it.

Baptists (and others)-- Wives submit to husbands? Wives and husbands equal partners?

Leadership always comes with authority but should always come with the best interests of the whole (country, church, business, family) in mind and thus is about serving. But to define leadership and authority in terms of serving only is a half-truth and missing the point of leadership. A leader...

Baptists (and others)-- Wives submit to husbands? Wives and husbands equal partners?

One rarely hears a sermon where, like Peter does, Sarah is presented as an example for the wives to call/treat their husband as their lord/master (kyrios) and submit to her (hopefully holy, loving and considerate) husband. :) On the other hand, there are countless sermons where husbands are...

What did Moses say about rapists?

The existence of verse 28 in addition to verse 16 would suggest this is a different class of offence; also the high bride-price of 50 shekels underscores this (some estimate this to be 200 days of labour in those days). The word used for 'seize' H8610 is an intentional physical action (the same...

What did Moses say about rapists?

The Torah does not say that explicitly but it would amount to theft / defilement / violation of a father's daughter, destroying her honour/purity and her 'value' in bride price terms for the father. Killing the whole town as retribution for Dinah's humiliation was even considered overkill by...

What did Moses say about rapists?

Exodus 22:16 does not refer to a man having sex with a virgin against her will. The word 'seduce' pāṯâ / H6601 is used which suggests the absence of force. It seems the Torah tries to distinguish between rape and pre-marital sex - observe also the difference with Deuteronomy 22:25 where we find...
