Matthew 11:

29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Humility is an attribute of Jesus, but is it an attribute of God?

The almighty God took the form of a fragile human baby in Jesus. Was there any act more humble than that? It was God who did it. Yes, humility is an attribute of God, along with his mercy. It was God's mercy that caused him to do it.

Philippians 2:

5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!
Proverbs 11:

2 When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
Humility and wisdom go together. You cannot have one without the other.

Jesus humbled himself on the cross to die for us. John 3:

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Humility is an attribute of Jesus. The Father humbled himself to send his unique son to suffer for us. Humility is an attribute of the Father.

My apologies. What do you mean?
Allow a little illustration from the physical world :

Did you ever explain a math problem and how to solve it to someone else , including a little child (like how to figure out 2 plus 2, then 2 plus 3, and so on.....

When they work it out and get it, you might say YEAH! You got it! You SEE the answer now.....

We do not see Jesus nor the Father in the physical world , but in spiritual understanding and wisdom that God Gives Graciously. 'You see' thus means 'You understand' --- and this is only possible when the Father or Jesus grants the understanding.

We can relax and have perfect peace when we see our lives in Christ Jesus as the Father Sees us in Christ Jesus.
We can hear Jesus Voice IF we are His sheep. And we do not listen to other voices.

It is very very rarely out loud, physical sound.

If you hear Jesus , in your spirit, you hear the Father, for they are echad <one> .... as wer are to be also !!!

I don't think I can recall any verse where GOD (=the Father) / YHWH is called humble or describes Himself as such. Yeshua was humble (Philippians 2), but He is in submission to His Father, and he is a separate identity/being from His Father. Yet still God out of God (as Nicea states). The early church fathers confessed/believed GOD generated/brought forth Yeshua before all ages.

GOD cannot be humble as there is no one to submit to in relative terms. Humility by definition is a relative term.

Yeshua's submission and humility is set as an example to us believers.

"AMP
who, although He existed in the form and unchanging essence of God [as One with Him, possessing the fullness of all the divine attributes—the entire nature of deity], did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped or asserted [as if He did not already possess it, or was afraid of losing it];

"MSG
Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of himself. He had equal status with God but didn’t think so much of himself that he had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what. Not at all. When the time came,

"he set aside the privileges of deity
and took on the status of a slave,
became human! Having become human,
he stayed human. It was an incredibly humbling process.

He didn’t claim special privileges.
Instead, he lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death—and the worst kind of death at that—a crucifixion."

Philippians 2:

Jesus humbled himself on the cross to die for us. John 3:

Humility is an attribute of Jesus. The Father humbled himself to send his unique son to suffer for us. Humility is an attribute of the Father.
Well, first off, Jesus is God (as God is a Trinity), so therefore the humility of Jesus = humility of God. And, since the Father sent Jesus to us, in John 3:16-18, then God the Father is humble.

Also, the Holy Spirit produces humility*. Therefore, God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) is humble.

*Galatians 5:22-23: “The Spirit produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility and self-control.”

Here is an analysis of how we can put on humility as Christians.

DateApril 27, 2024
VerseColossians 3:12 (ESV): "Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience "

Matthew 5:5 (ESV): "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth."
ExplanationBoth Colossians 3:12 and Matthew 5:5 emphasize the importance of humility, meekness, and other virtues in our daily lives as followers of God.

Colossians 3:12 calls us to put on the character of God's chosen ones, which includes having compassionate hearts, being kind, humble, meek, and patient. This means that as believers, we are to reflect the qualities of God in our interactions with others. In a self-centered world that prioritizes personal gain, these verses challenge us to put the needs and well-being of others before our own. It's easy to get lost in our own desires and ambitions, but Colossians reminds us that as God's chosen ones, we are called to be different. We are called to love others with the same compassion and kindness that God has shown us.

Matthew 5:5, on the other hand, speaks of the blessedness of being meek. Meekness is often misunderstood as weakness or timidity, but it is actually a strength that comes from humility and a deep awareness of our dependence on God. Meekness allows us to receive the blessings of God, including the inheritance of the earth. In a world that values power and personal gain above all else, it can be difficult to embrace meekness. But Matthew 5:5 reminds us that those who are meek will be blessed and rewarded spiritually.
Societal RelevanceBoth of these verses challenge us to live counter-culturally in a self-centered world. They call us to put the needs and well-being of others before our own, to be humble and meek in our interactions with others, and to trust that God will reward us for living according to His values. By embracing these virtues, we can make a positive impact on the world around us and bring glory to God.

Here are some steps to begin journeying to humbleness:

1. Humility is a choice to put the needs and interests of others before our own. In the modern world, we can practice humility by volunteering in our community, serving those in need, or simply listening actively and empathetically to others
2. Humility also means recognizing our limitations and weaknesses. We can humble ourselves by acknowledging when we are wrong, seeking forgiveness, and working to improve ourselves.
3. Social media can be a double-edged sword for humility. While it offers opportunities to connect with others and serve, it can also fuel comparison and pride. Practicing humility online might look like unfollowing accounts that make us feel inadequate or using social media to uplift and encourage others.
4. Humility is a posture of openness and teachability. In the workplace, we can humble ourselves by seeking feedback from our colleagues and supervisors, admitting when we don't know something, and being willing to learn from others. Before clocking in, remember Colossians 3:12.
5. Finally, humility is about recognizing our dependence on God. We can humble ourselves by praying regularly, reading Scripture, and seeking to live in obedience to His will. By acknowledging our need for God's grace and mercy, we can cultivate a humble heart that reflects His love and compassion to others.

Philippians 2:8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

Matthew 18:2 Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, 3 and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me.

And in person, according to Jesus.
A good word on the humility of God. If you get a chance have you ever address the attribute of God as invisible? I am kind of lost on this. If even father God is invisible as the bible says, how would he have an image or if we looked upon him, we would die? My conclusion is that invisible means he is not seen most of the time, alternatively, that when God si seen it is always Jesus. Anyway, any thoughts or previous writing you have to shed light on this would be great.

Realize that to even try to think of an image of God may be disastrous .
Making an image of God or of Jesus (Who is God, and echad with the Father)
is definitely forbidden. So the idolators who do that suffer greatly, and are blinded to their own idolatry! They may even deny it. They are told by the enemy it is okay.

No one has ever seen GOD at anytime, the Apostle John writes twice (John 1:18, 1 John 4:12), because indeed GOD is a spirit and invisible. But as Paul writes in Colossians 1:15 about Yeshua:

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.
And the author in Hebrews 1:3 about Yeshua:

He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.
So when we see Yeshua, a physical human being, the literal Son of GOD, we see GOD the Father, just in the same way one can look at a UK coin and see the imprint of King Charles on it - we see the King through the coin, but we don't see the actual King (otherwise John could not have written that no one has ever seen GOD at anytime AFTER Yeshua's ascension to the right hand of GOD). As we read:

John 12:45
And whoever sees me sees him who sent me.
John 14:9
.. Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. ..
John 20:28
Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!”

Observe how John 20:28 could be interpreted twofold in parallel: GOD the Father is visible through Yeshua, but Yeshua himself is also God (John 1:1c).

The image on the coin helps quite a bit on this. Thanks for your response.
