  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Kirk Cameron Takes Heat for His Annihilationist View on Hell

It states that the soul will indeed be destroyed, perish, etc. Matthew 10:28 "And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only...

Kirk Cameron Takes Heat for His Annihilationist View on Hell

The point is, Gehenna being used as an example is a sign of death and destruction. It's not a sign that proves someone will serve ongoing eternal torment. Anything thrown into the fires in Gehenna was consumed with fire. We are told specifically the soul will be die and be destroyed. I will...

Kirk Cameron Takes Heat for His Annihilationist View on Hell

When Christ uses this example it's because he is talking about Gehenna and the worms/maggots that are feasting on the dead, it's a sign of destruction. And the fire continually kept going because more was added to it. It doesn't mean things are being kept alive, etc. That's also why Christ is...

Why have you added soul? The worms are a sign of total destruction. That's why Gehenna is used as an example. And Christ states fear the one that can kill both body and soul. So yes, the soul can and will die. Most of the Bible points out that the wicked will cease to exist, vanish, melt away...

Is Hell Annihilationism or Eternal Torment

Exactly. He resorts to calling it a "cult" to believe in this verse because he and the ECT doctrine falls apart with it. They know they have to add to this verse to fit their doctrine.

Can't you honestly see that makes no sense? You are basically stating they receive eternal life but only in a different place. You can spin it however but that is basically what you are stating. You continue to use the second meaning of the word apollumi although many verses like Matthew 10:28...

Because context matters. We should go with the first definition unless the verse dictates otherwise. It wouldn't make sense for Christ to call it the second death if it was not exactly that. I know to you that means nothing but it totally coincides with his teaching in Matthew 10:28. Christ...

Kirk Cameron Takes Heat for His Annihilationist View on Hell

Again, Jesus is using an analogy here with Gehenna and the fires that were kept going. The Lake of Fire will keep going as well until everything is consumed. There should still be no question as to what Christ means in Matthew 10:28 which aligns with every verse in the Bible about what will...

Again, unquenchable by human standards. But God's eternal fire did not last forever in the OT. They are set as our example. Jesus used Gehenna as example because that's where stuff was thrown into. It continually burned and that's what will happen with the LOF but it doesn't mean that things...

Kirk Cameron Takes Heat for His Annihilationist View on Hell

So throw out all of the scripture that points to life or death? There's nothing that suggests that everlasting shame and contempt could not point to death. That would have been the last thing placed on that person. And that would be final and everlasting. I used to believe as you did -having...

Kirk Cameron Takes Heat for His Annihilationist View on Hell

I had read sometime ago that he no longer believed in a pretrib rapture as those stories portray. Good for him. No offense to those who believe otherwise but I personally do not find it biblical as well. And now he's turning on the ECT doctrine. That's amazing. Maybe he decided to search out...

Is Hell Annihilationism or Eternal Torment

I agree. And it's good to have teachers, etc. But there's nothing wrong with checking them out vs God's Word. Dan doesn't feel he has the right to do so. But I feel that is our responsibility to do so. Because that's the only way we can know if they're leading us on the right path. He thinks...
