    Elevation of the North Rim is 1000 feet higher than the South, at 8200 feet, 1.5 miles high. When you hike down to the Colorado River, you go through about 5 major ecological systems . It is interesting. Phoenix is hot in July, but the North Rim an be quite a bit cooler.
