Is the world going to end? what sort of things do you look at to arrive at such a conclusion?

Just reading Revelations it gives you the answer. I love the book of Revelations. I love everything in the bible but revelations is my favourite. Somewhere i read that in the ot it said the univers will be rolled up like a scroll.

Yes.

Separate to Revelations, the way we treat this planet is atrotious. We're killing it, and every year we get worse.

CeCe
4th March 2004, 09:49 AM
Yes.

I agree with what's been said so far.

And for anyone who is wondering, the passage TrustNo1 is referring to (actually there are 2) is

Isaiah 34:4 All the host of heaven shall be dissolved,
And the heavens shall be rolled up like a scroll;
All their host shall fall down
As the leaf falls from the vine,
And as fruit falling from a fig tree.

Revelation 6:14 Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place.

Of course it's going to end.......

Aside from isaiah and Revelation, there are verses in Daniel.

The world will come to an end. Couldn't tell you how or when, but I am not overly worried about it. After all, none of us will see it coming, so we will either be ready or we won't. :prayer:

According to every belief... that i know of anyway... there is going to eventually be some kind of end to everything. Either that or it'll carry on forever into infinity... and that's even more depressing if you think about it. :sigh:

In Matthew 24:35-- Jesus said: Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.
(This is also in Luke 21:33)

Now I'm wondering what He meant by Heaven passing away. :sigh:

it was talking about like the stuff in outer space, like it say the stars will fall out of heaven

EDIT: I'm ment to say: I THINK it was talking... I'm not an expert on the bible that's just my belief.

When you ask if the world is going to end, it really depends on the spirit in which it was asked.

Are you asking if there will be no humans on the earth someday, then yes. Eventually the sun will die out and the world will frost over. The world will still be here, just in a different form but hopefully as a species we will have developed an artificial means of surviving in deep space without a sun by then.

If your asking if god will come and take everyone to heaven, well it depends on your religion.

In any event, even being hit by a giant meteor or some other such catastrophy (would just add mass to the planet), the world will alwas be fine as one type of planet or another. Its the things that live on it that have to worry about what will happen with the passage of time.

Well one day there will be the rapture (or poof) when jesus comes to take his follwers home, then there will tribulation and trials for seven years before christ comes down in the flesh to build his kingdom down here! Isn't that an absoulutley awesome thought? Christ, here in the flesh.
I have a question for yall though...do you want to see this, or hope you'll be dead before it happens
I'm undecided myself...just pm me with your answers!

Your question is a little vague, but as for the Earth being destroyed, this will never happen.

First, lets start with Psalms 104:5, "It(the earth) will not be made to totter to time indefinite or forever. Ok, with this, we establish that time indefinite also means forever.(scripture little more direct in KJV, earth is forever)

Second, Go to Ecclesiastes 1:4 where it states that, "A generation is going, and a generation is coming; but the earth is standing even to time indefinite.
These scriptures from NWT, but as seen, the KJV reads to the same point, just more thous and lots of eths.

yes the world will end one day. Most likely humanity will be long gone by then. But eventually the sun is going to burn out, but before it does that, it's going to get really, really big, possibly engulfing the earth and/or possibly going super nova. Once the sun dies and if the earth happens to survive, I doubt there will be enough gravitational force to keep the Earth in any sort of safe orbit, and will most likely fly off an crash into some other large body eventually.

DudeForChrist
16th March 2004, 03:47 PM
That's not how the world will end. It will start with the Rapture of all Christians on the earth. That's how the end times will begin. Ever read Revelations? I know it's a little confusing, but hey, it's mostly symbolic, since John had to describe what he saw compared to what they had back then.

As a Baha'i, I have a different perspective on this.

I believe one age has ended and another has begun. God is building His kingdom as we speak. The world as we know it will end, but not in the literal sense.

2 peter 3:10 and 12 say the earth and the elements will be on fire and burn up with fervent heat. But I don't think that means the planet will be completely destroyed. The Bible also says the earth abides forever, and it speaks of a new heaven and new earth. Jesus said the meek shall inherit the earth. They can't inherit something that isn't there or has ended. I think the "end of the world" means the purification. God has to destroy those who destroy the earth in Revelation11:18, but after the fire it will be cleansed and ready for Gods kingdom.

Krystina

I believe Heaven will be right here on earth. So no, in my opinion the world won't end.

In the last 2 chapters of Revelation it shows how this is true because the holy city new Jerusalem comes down, and God dwells in it. The nations come to its gates so this is on earth, after the fire purifies.

Yes, the world, as we know it today, will end. There will be a new heaven and a new earth in the ages to come that will be completely void of all evil.

The end times of our current world will be marked by destruction of all evil. Those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour and have The Holy Spirit in their hearts will spend an eternity of joy and peace with Jesus Christ.

All of the prophecy of the Holy Bible will be fulfilled before our current world comes to an end. All will eventually see the literal reality of a literal Heaven and hell. It is far past time for all to seek and accept Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour.

Love In Christ.

I suppose that we just describe the same thing differently.

Hello Breetai,

After the 1,000 year Reign of Christ, there will literally be a new earth and a new heaven. The description given in the Holy Bible is quite beautiful. As an example, there will be no need for the sun. The glory and radiance of Christ's presence will be our light.

doesnt it say that the universe will be rolled up like a scroll?

Krystina661
23rd March 2004, 02:52 PM
I believe that's just a metaphor..

Breetai
23rd March 2004, 03:39 PM
Kristina is right about that being a metaphor, just as much of that book is.

I'm well aware of what Revelation says 357. Why do you take the 1000 years as literal? It could just as easily be taken as symbolic just like most other things in that book.

II Peter 3:8
One day is with the Lord as a 1000 years, and a 1000 years as one day.

God's chronology is not the same as man's. The only mention of the millennium is surrounded by the use of allegory. Why should the 1000 years be any different?

jeffs_girl_2004
23rd March 2004, 04:53 PM
Yes, because it is stated in several places in the bible.

Breetai
23rd March 2004, 05:33 PM
I think that a lot of people confuse this doctrine. The age (aion in greek) will end, but the world (kosmos) will never end.

Ecc. 1:4
One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.

Ps. 104:5
Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever.

Matt. 24:3
And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world(aion)?

357magnum
24th March 2004, 04:08 PM
doesnt it say that the universe will be rolled up like a scroll?

Yes Brother, the Holy Bible does clearly state this and much more. The description of the New Heaven and the New Earth is beautiful, but we already know that many will simply dismiss it as a metaphor. Many like to dismiss large portions of the Holy Bible for this reason or others. There is an obvious and critical reason for every word of the Holy Bible from cover to cover. Careful study of HIS WORD reveals those reasons, and they pertain to reality that was, or is, or is to be.

Love In Christ.

The word earth is different then the word world.

The earth will always be here.
The world will pass away as in Noah's day. A world of wicked mankind. Noah was able to step off the ark onto the same planet earth, but a new world.

New heavens and new earth refers to a new governmental arrangement (God's kingdom--a very real heavenly government with Christ as king) and a new earthly society.

Depends on how you define "world"
The earth itself will be destroyed in about 5 billion years.
But will humanity survive? Almost certainly not as we know it. Here are some possibilities:
1. We destroy ourselves.
2. We slowly evolve naturally or with genetic enginering. (In which these new beings will be destroyed or evolve.
3. Something along the lines of an asteriod hits earth and destroys us.
4. We spread out across the galaxy.
There are many more, but they are too numerous to place them all here.
Will the universe as a whole be destroyed? Roght now it looks as though it will expand forever and everything will end up frozen.

Call me a nut but I would anticipate that Christ would return in the next 50-100 years although it could be far far more distance than that. A good website is tribulation.com and looking under the prophecy section can make for an interesting read.

One thing is for sure though: it's only a matter of time.

Everything must end,
But the bible says there is an end.
I don't want to be here when god has a going out of business sale.
The Anti-christ will get everything for a little.
And the world will not be a nice place.
Hell on Earth.
I want to be called home before that.
My incident of the end will be when the middle east has peace. the anti-christ will
make a pact for a seven year peace.

This question supposes that the world is all that exists, are you talking about the universe or the earth???

Earth will come to its end one day. If not before, it will happen when the sun burns out, but hopefully by then we will have relised how much more is out there, as there is 1 solar system in the universe for every grain of sand on the earth

Pilgrim 33
7th May 2004, 12:17 PM
Two ways to go with this, first, mankind is sinful and is degenerative in nature and is on a downhill spirial to oblivion that without outside help can not recover from or; second, he, of his own abilities, is getting better all the time and will, one day, reach perfection and ultimate godhood.

When sin entered the world it disrupted the natural perfection and order of all, hence the entire universe and everything in it is on a downhill spiral to ultimate oblivion. Thus, we are told, God will make all things new and that the former will be destroyed and never more be.

Yes it will end.

About 5-10 billion years from now the Sun will swell to a size where it swallows and burns up the Earth. Life will long previously have died out as the oceans evaporate and the ground bubbles with lava.

28th June 2004, 07:28 PM
Well, everything has an end, even the Sun will eventually burn out. And I guarantee that once that happens we will all die unless we have moved to another solar system by then. This world will definitely end. However, that does not necessarily mean that human beings and all other planetary life will become extinct. However, Biblically, I do believe that there will be a rapture and this world will end there and a new world will be formed. But who knows, we might just make our own Noah's Ark again and travel to another Solar System before God decides to rapture us all. Anything is possible I always say.

Yes, I believe it will, but I think it will be reborn in a form suitable for the creator of all life. I also believe that the time is near. Consider 2 Timothy 3:1-7

1 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! 6For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, 7always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

You can witness all of this by simply turning on daytime TV. To reject Jesus is foolish. Accept Him while you can.

There is no indication in the bible that this world will end. It does say that much of it will be destroyed and that even the elements will melt. Sounds like Nuclear or Asteroid type destruction to me. Even after the tribulation period there will be people still here for 1000 more years but during that time Jesus will reign. The bible tells us that there will be a new Heaven and a new earth and that the old things will have passed away. It tells us about a new Jerusalem from which Jesus will rule and reign. Does this mean that God totally recreated a new earth or that the old one was made new? The Bible says that there will be a city brought down from Heaven that is built 4 square. I guess we will have to wait and see exactly how this all takes place. I definately know that we don't inhabit outer space on our own through exploration and space travel. Anyone who would say or think this does not read the Bible!

29th June 2004, 05:09 PM
The world as we now know it will come to an end but most of that will be how things are done. All will not be destroyed at least not at the end of the tribulation period. This is when Jesus will come back to set up His kingdom at the end of the tribulation written about in the book of the Revelation. Justice and goodness will reign supreme then. Christians and Jewish believers will be in control and ruling with Jesus. No longer will Hollywood, MTV, BET, VH1, HBO, Cinemax, Howard Stern, Jerry Springer and others like these used as pawns of Satan plague our planet with sin. This is because Satan will be locked up and will not rule these people and entities any longer. Jesus will allow Satan to excape at the end of 1000 years to temp all the people who were born ourside of His kingdom. (These are those that survived the tribulation and had children.) When these have made thier decision who to follow the final judgement day will come where EVERYONE will stand before God and give an account of thier life. When all unbelievers have been permanently sent to THEIR CHOSEN eternal provisions we that love and serve Jesus will have the whole world and universe to ourselves to forever worship God. Personally, I can't wait until Jesus returns and things begin to be run like He wants them to!

Yes, of course the world is coming to an end. Whether you are a christian, atheist, or other believer you should realize the truth. If you are a christian, then you have the Bible, the book of Daniel and Revelation, and the whole Word of God should be your proof.

If you are an atheist or a non-christian then just look at the world around us. Like many people have said, we are killing this planet so even if God wouldn't exist, we would eventually kill ourselves.

Yep, its all gonna end. Gladly though, I will be long gone when Jesus comes back for his pplz :amen: before any of the bad stuff happens, and it will. The world is gonna have to pay up for its sin. Those not having been covered with the blood of Jesus will have to give there's and its not gonna be pretty. Yeah Revelation can get pretty scray, but that doesnt make it any less true.:preach:
God has been warning us since the days of the prophets that the world would end and thank God that Jesus came as our last chance to escape that day when the Lord will punish the wicked.

" 9 See, the day of the LORD is coming
—a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger—
to make the land desolate
and destroy the sinners within it.

10 The stars of heaven and their constellations
will not show their light.
The rising sun will be darkened
and the moon will not give its light.

11 I will punish the world for its evil,
the wicked for their sins.
I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty
and will humble the pride of the ruthless.

12 I will make man scarcer than pure gold,
more rare than the gold of Ophir. 13 Therefore I will make the heavens tremble;
and the earth will shake from its place
at the wrath of the LORD Almighty,
in the day of his burning anger. "

His judgement comes soon, be ready.
God bless.

Revelation 6:14 Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place.[/QUOTE]

I had a dream about exactly this. First I saw the clouds open up out of the sky as if they were making way for the Lord. You know when you see a plume come from a volcano. It was as if it were the reverse and I sensed a presence come out from the clouds and then I saw the sky rolled up as if something that is peeled back.

Anyhow, I don't mean to sound freakish but that scripture struck me and reminded me of that. It wasn't a scary dream though.

Some believe that the Revelation was about many endings that eventually become the final ending where Christ returns. To many Christians of the past it is not all that assuming to believe that they probably thought that the world did end, many, many times. Yet, obviously tomorrow came for the rest of us and one thing proves itself more and more true. It seems like "the end" keeps coming closer to the end of ends every time it ends, but then it always ends before it brings us to the end of ends.

In the mortal sense the reality of it is mind-blowing, because it goes beyond just the question of will humanity and its home we call the world, one planet, one species end? Just imagine it, the whole universe, all galaxies, all planets, all space and time coming to an end. Of course, God has a particular plan for everything and every being of Creation, but this entire universe is finite. All will end eventually, and even eventually time will end and eternity will be a state of immortality rather than a timeless face on a clock.

In the Bible, though, "the end" is also what God begins.

If it gets any hotter this summer maybe it DID end!

There is plenty in the bible that tells us 'yes'...and plenty of scientific evidence to suggest that it is going to happen sooner or later anyway (even without human interference!!)

*Starlight*

I don't think it's going to actually end soon... Even if there was a global nuclear war, it probably wouldn't wipe out all humanity. But one day it will end... In a few billion years, when our sun enters the red giant phase, the Earth will be destroyed by it. But I don't think it will mean the end of humanity... There are other planets, other suns... We'll always find a place to live. :)

As for the end of the world as described in the Bible, I don't know when or if it will happen. Maybe it's just some kind of allegory or metaphor... I really don't know. :)

Separate to Revelations, the way we treat this planet is atrotious. We're killing it, and every year we get worse.

Actually the world does not come to an end - there is an end of the ages as we know it - The Bible says there will be a new Heaven and earth.

Every sign the Bible gives that has to happen has happened - Jesus could return any day and Scripture would be fullfiled.

Keep your eye on Israel that is the key - Iran is already saying that they will wipe Israel off the face of the earth - One attack will set the whole thing into motion.

I hate to disagree with people, but Peter tells us that, "the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?" (2 Peter 3:10-12)

Revelations isnt the end of the world. Look. It is symbolic that the human race will screw up, as always, and will be saved. Of course the world will end - it had a beginning, it will have an end; just like everything else in this creation, it is deteriorating. The world as we know it will end. The world overall will not end. This planet is in God's plan to last foever in one form or another. It will be here for the Milliemum reign of Christ,then burned and renewed into the New Heavens and New Earth. ONly those who are Born Again Christians will see this and go into the New Era . Als I will say infants and young children who died before the age of accountability will also go into this fablous time . All those who accept Christ during the Milleimum will also go into this New Earth . All those who do not accept Christ's pardon will be in THE LAKE OF FIRE for Eternity. It will be here for the Milliemum reign of Christ
So lets scare people into the kingdom like good JW's. The only reason that people believe some of this stuff is because they have never encountered any alternatives. Premillennialism is dangerous and bad for your health.

Slight problem with this. The bible says that this world will be melted! If something is melted, it is not renewed but is destroyed. For example, if you take a glass bottle and put it under extreme heat, it melts. It is no longer a bottle, but a mess of gloop. In order for it to be a bottle again, someone is going to have to re-create it in the shape of a bottle.

This world is going to melt, therefore it will be destroyed.

Perhaps it would be better to ask, "why is it in the Bible?". God reveals snippets of His plan (consider Daniel, who was told that his message was not for his generation but for another).

This does not mean that we should be scaring people to believe, but lovingly informing them of what is going to happen.

Yes, According to Revelation, it will end. We just don't know when.

Do excuse any duplication as I only have a few mins

Jesus, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Zechariah & others forecast that this climax time of all history would start with the rebirth of Israel after long global scattering

Dan 7 also forecast a revived Roman Empire for the climax generation, to crush, trample & devour victims till the Ancient of Days crushes it in person

Like Israel, the then-EEC was birthed in 1948

A Bible generation is at most 70 yrs, & Jesus said that this generation to see Israel's 'fig tree put forth her leaves' would be 'cut short' by the instant airlift (Rapture) rescue of all who love Him - (Matt 24:30-31, 1 Corinthians 15:51-58m 1 Thessalonians 4:14-5:11, etc)

Now most schools & colleges, etc, are on half term break, let's 'redeem the time' by helping complete the Great Commission of Matt 28 & Mark 16, to hasten Christ's return & cut short the awful sufferings of our persecuted brothers & sisters, yes?

God bless!

Jon

I think it all just depends on how one looks at it. The bible does say the world will pass away but the bible also says that that we will have a new heaven and new earth. I take that as the "world" will never actually pass away but that it will be re-made..

I think it says there will be a new heavens and new earth. I think it means that the world system under Satan's domain will end, not the literal earth.

I think it says there will be a new heavens and new earth. I think it means that the world system under Satan's domain will end, not the literal earth.
2Peter 3:7 But by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

2Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat , and the earth and its works will be burned up.

Isaiah 51:6 "Lift up your eyes to the sky, Then look to the earth beneath ; For the sky will vanish like smoke, And the earth will wear out like a garment And its inhabitants will die in like manner; But My salvation will be forever, And My righteousness will not wane.

Also read Isiah 24 which also speaks of the devastation of the earth
The LORD's Devastation of the Earth
1 See, the LORD is going to lay waste the earth
and devastate it;
he will ruin its face
and scatter its inhabitants-

2 it will be the same
for priest as for people,
for master as for servant,
for mistress as for maid,
for seller as for buyer,
for borrower as for lender,
for debtor as for creditor.

3 The earth will be completely laid waste
and totally plundered.
The LORD has spoken this word.

4 The earth dries up and withers,
the world languishes and withers,
the exalted of the earth languish.

5 The earth is defiled by its people;
they have disobeyed the laws,
violated the statutes
and broken the everlasting covenant.

6 Therefore a curse consumes the earth;
its people must bear their guilt.
Therefore earth's inhabitants are burned up,
and very few are left.

7 The new wine dries up and the vine withers;
all the merrymakers groan.

8 The gaiety of the tambourines is stilled,
the noise of the revelers has stopped,
the joyful harp is silent.

9 No longer do they drink wine with a song;
the beer is bitter to its drinkers.

10 The ruined city lies desolate;
the entrance to every house is barred.

11 In the streets they cry out for wine;
all joy turns to gloom,
all gaiety is banished from the earth.

12 The city is left in ruins,
its gate is battered to pieces.

13 So will it be on the earth
and among the nations,
as when an olive tree is beaten,
or as when gleanings are left after the grape harvest.

14 They raise their voices, they shout for joy;
from the west they acclaim the LORD's majesty.

15 Therefore in the east give glory to the LORD;
exalt the name of the LORD, the God of Israel,
in the islands of the sea.

16 From the ends of the earth we hear singing:
"Glory to the Righteous One."
But I said, "I waste away, I waste away!
Woe to me!
The treacherous betray!
With treachery the treacherous betray!"

17 Terror and pit and snare await you,
O people of the earth.

18 Whoever flees at the sound of terror
will fall into a pit;
whoever climbs out of the pit
will be caught in a snare.
The floodgates of the heavens are opened,
the foundations of the earth shake.

19 The earth is broken up,
the earth is split asunder,
the earth is thoroughly shaken.

20 The earth reels like a drunkard,
it sways like a hut in the wind;
so heavy upon it is the guilt of its rebellion
that it falls—never to rise again.

21 In that day the LORD will punish
the powers in the heavens above
and the kings on the earth below.

22 They will be herded together
like prisoners bound in a dungeon;
they will be shut up in prison
and be punished [a] after many days.

23 The moon will be abashed, the sun ashamed;
for the LORD Almighty will reign
on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem,
and before its elders, gloriously.

Joel speaks of it in chapter two. Jeremiah too. Ezekiel as well. As well as the revelation.

Good analogy except that as quoted many times "the world as we now know it will end" so your analogy actually proves that point in that yes you melt the 'glass' bottle and it no longer is a glass 'bottle' butt it is still glass.

The world will End. Eventually. Humans will long since have departed this planet when it does happen. All species of animal will eventually die out... as has been shown throughout history, from the mightiest of dinosaurs to the smallest of plants. Do not worry... New life will evolve from our demise and i am sure, these new forms of life will become extinct long before the world ends.

There is no conclusive evidence to support the theory that one species can evolve into a completely different one.

Is the world going to end? what sort of things do you look at to arrive at such a conclusion?

Greetings Blessed-one,

I apologize if I am repeating what someone else may have already posted... but the following scripture came to mind as I read your question..

Rev 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

Cheers,

Yes, it will.

Or more precisely, the evil that has corrupted this world. For ultimately, this world is precisely what will be saved by the glorious Second Coming of our Lord. So in that sense, this world will not be destroyed.

Depends upon what this refers to.

yes-I believe the sun has a part in the end of the world.Earth will become the new hell the land of the dead.And heaven the new earth the land of the living.Scientist say our sun is about 1/3 of the way through its expected life .In the next billion of years its hotness and brightness will increase and will make the oceans on earth boil away and life would be destroyed. I believe around this time gods people will leave this earth the ones left behind will have new bodies and will be able to tolerate this without burning up in flames, but we will still be able to feel the effects an eternity of pain which can not be relinguished and no escaping .Scientist say when this happens people will be forced to live under ground .Scientist also estimate that the sun will swell 150 times more than its present size.Than the sun will will swallow the earth .The earth sun will become what scientist call a red giant because it will be very large and red in color.
