My friend CJ visited an LCMS chruch while on his work assignment in Gainesville, Fla. - and he liked the Lutheran service! Yay!

He wants to visit my ELCA church when he's in town. His secretary is First Christian - Disciples of Christ. :) I know that they and the ELCA must be quite close in theology and beliefs because we have a close relationship with a local DOC church here in town.

However, does anybody know any of the differences in theology and beliefs for the DOC and the ELCA just so I can let my friend know about them. He's just trying to learn as much as he can about his different choices. I help him when I can, but I obviously don't have all the answers!

Thanks.

If you want to know more about them here is a link

From what I read they are more American Evangelical in their beliefs and practices than Lutherans are in the more conservative synods. They might be more closer to the ELCA in some respects but not if comparing to the ELCAers here.

Obviously sacraments are a point of contention, and so is Law and Gospel.

Wow. . short. ..perhaps a bit too liberal for me, then! Looks perhaps a bit too liberal for a guy who doesn't want to be Catholic but doesn't want to upset his mom that much because she's a strict Catholic lady! (To the point of telling him that he should be with a woman because that's a forgiveable sin, but not marry another woman because that's an unforgiveable sin!)

Yep, I like ELCA because it's liberal and conforms well to my beliefs (however, I feel those sacraments and what Lutherans say about Law and Gospel is important!), but I think Disciples of Christ, for myself, is a bit too liberal!
