DATABASE CRASH - Lost 24 hours worth of POSTS ONLY!

Dear members and guests

Yesterday at 05:47 GMT (4 October 2004) CF's post table reached the maximum default size.

Because of this, the post table started getting corrupted.

Now, when this happened, it was 15:47 AEST and I was at work. I found out almost immediately, and shut the site down.

I left work early, and got home at 18:15 AEST (which is 08:15 GMT). I started work on the database straight away.

Took me LITERALLY 12 hours to SAVE ALL OF CF's POST - Basically, we were VERY CLOSE to losing the whole post table because of corruption,.

But praise God, I managed to save ALL of CF's posts EXCEPT THE LAST 23 HOURS - Basically from approximatel 09:00 GMT 3 October 2004.

I have been working on the CF database all night, and had about 3 hours of sleep - it took a long time to fix because the post table was so huge (many many gigabytes which was part of the problem as it got too big for the default database options). I had to keep repairing, optimizing, restoring and doing all sorts of tricks to save the database. :)

Praise God, we only lost the last 24 hours or so of POSTS ONLY.

EVERYTHING ELSE IS SAVED. All new users, blessings, data - everything is saved except the last 24 hours of posts.

This is why we have threads from the last 24 hours (we did not lose any threads) but they are empty of posts from the last 24 hours.

I want to sincerely apologize for this - I did not foresee that CF would grow so big that it would reach the normal default theoretical maximum size for a database table. :)

Anyway, I've fixed it so that the default size is an astronomical number now.

I seriously don't know how you do it Erwin. I've seen a lot of boards using this base coding - and seriously the designers themselves would probably be surprised with what you've done here. Things were all over the place. Took me a long time to repair the database. The post table itself took over 4 hours to optimize and repair once I manually fixed the corruption!

Possibly part of the bug... the attachments SHOULD be gone already - try deleting them again.
