i belong to a CB church that is conservative in the sense that it makes a stand in conserving the true meaning of the Word as opposed to false teaching. but in attire we do not require skirts and we sing contemporary christian songs. we do not encourage speaking in tongues personally.
basically, i just want to share what it is like for me. i enjoy having fellowship with fellow christians but find myself meeting more people from other denominations as they are the ones who are more into interfellowship activities in our city. it doesnt help that the more traditional baptists like to keep to themselves, some are separatists.
how to make my points more clear? i do not want to be misunderstood...
im not complaining or anything, just like to get insights and help/reassurance.
how to get in touch with traditional baptists when they do not do interfellowship?
what makes me/my denomination/sub denomination different from the others aside from speaking in tongues? (not that i want to be different but i just want to understand more, there are so many things to know)
one of my greatest desires is to help christians unite, work together to reach the world. i know that no matter what differences may exist, we believe in the one true God and He does not want that we will be divided, and that He wants the world to know of His love, His wonderful plan. john 17

Some Baptists speak in tongues?
ditto. Thats a new one on me. :)
I'm having a hard time understanding what you want to know. Are you asking how to get in touch with other Baptists in your area, Or are you asking why Baptists don't generally fellowship with other denominations.

I have heard a baptist pastor preach that he sees nothing wrong with speaking in tongues, but Ive never heard of a baptist actually speaking in tongues either!

I have no problem with speaking in tongues as long as it's a REAL LANGUAGE as it was on the day of Pentecost. Paul also laid down some ground rules in 1 or 2 Corinthians as far as the use of tongues goes.
Many if not all of the Charismatic 'speaking in tongues' is just mindless gibberish with no real meaning. Their use of these tongues also shows lack of respect for the scriptures as they constantly violate the guidlines set out in 1 or 2 Corinthians.
I think it's possible to speak in tongues, but it's rare these days since it is a sign gift and much of our society is educated somewhat in the gospel message.

Some (http://www.adsrve.com/linkredirect.php?h=10,37445013,christianforums.com,0) Baptists speak in tongues?
im sorry, i meant that the things we do in church are basically the same with the average evangelical except for speaking in tongues..
but i have a churchmate who came from a charismatic background and does speak in tongues privately but nobody does it during the worship service.
im still not decided whether it is good or bad. i have heard both sides though.

that is an interesting thought that was brought up tho...a baptist who speaks in tongues sounds kinda weird when you put it that way but there really is no stopping a person who wants to pray that way privately, no matter what denomination or religion he may belong.
but personally, i am wary of trying it on my own and a little uncomfortable when i hear someone do it. i have good friends who are charismatic but they are ok.. God also uses them :)
