Group Of Priests Gets Into Fistfight Outside Basilica
Club-Wielding Officers Had To Break Up Brawl

POSTED: 1:38 pm EDT September 27, 2004
JERUSALEM -- Greek Orthodox and Franciscan priests have gotten into a fistfight in one of Christianity's holiest shrines.

The fight broke out Monday in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, which is built on the spot in Jerusalem where tradition says Jesus was crucified and buried.

Israeli police officers, wielding clubs, had to break up the brawl.

The fisticuffs came after the religious leaders got into an argument over whether a door should be closed during a procession. A dozen people, including some Israeli police officers, were slightly injured. Four priests were detained.

Hundreds of Greek Orthodox worshippers were taking part in the procession that commemorates the fourth-century pilgrimage by the mother of Emperor Constantine to Jerusalem.

Cael, not sure about the intent of posting this here in our Lutheran forum...

Going to see what other mods think about this first, and may need to remove this thread.

While you may not have intended this to be a sort of "look at these funny Catholics" post, it may indeed come off as such by many on both the Lutheran AND OBOB sides of the fence. What they may be discussing as a Catholic article, may be viewed to be used as a tool of distaste amongst us Lutherans in TC forum.

Stay tuned...
